Lets he honest now. Th,e.

Utile great nation is, a passable
cook, a fair hopeekeeper, rdn
acceptable Maher, an adequate
wife and tolerable
She is not a raving, beauty, a
brilliant talent, an unusual
brain, .a perfect hostess or an
impeccable goddess.
The average housewife is de-
pendable, honest, generous,
Moral and just, She fills an all
important need in, every coin-
Munity and in every home.
I-Ter hand (though tinmani-•
cured and rough) can stroke,
the fevered brow of a and as •
tenderly as Cleopatra smooth-
ed Marc Antony's, eyelids; her
eyes though red 'and red-
from sitting up with the baby
can hold as much compassion
as the pretty peepers Delilah
rolled at Sampson.
So let's have an Average Mrs.
pageant. Let's give the winner
an all-expense trip to some ex-
otie land . , . after a steady
diet of baby and budget-balanc-
ing 'she could use tt. Let's have
a new wardrobe designed for
her even if she does happen to
wear a size 18 and a half.
And let's plan to send her
husband !along . just so he'll
be reminded again that he has
married a, prize-winner . al-
welt she is' no Helen of Troy,
Now that the Miss Canada
Pageant ha$ eheseri its lovely
for the year, the rest of us
plain Canadian women, can pull
the shades. on our rrdrror$ and
bask hi the splendor of the new
youthful queen who somehow
rePresent$ us all,
It has always been a little
depressing for me ,(little rotund,
flaweridden creature that I am)
that eneh generous amounts Alf
beauty should be lavished on
one young lady . . and even
more disturbing that so much
honor and fame should be
heaped upon one head ' simply
because it is beautiful. Surely
we who !are less blessed with
physical allure do possess some
qualities for Which nationwide
acclaim could be established.
It is, about time that someone
recognized the need for a com-
petition into which the AVER-
AGE Canadian housewife could
enter without fear that she
would be eliminated by a girl
who was definitely - or even
Slightly -- above average.
Advqtisernents on, television

ganda, produced in a thousand
different farms about the
housewife present an entirely
Nise image , . and most wom-
en know it (though they may
not admit it).
