Hello tivm- 11W POlUnin to
the Clinton NeWS-RecOrd ,
and from a new page dedicated
to the iladieo who read this
neWspaper.
Actually, "From My Window"
is not an entirely new C011.11nn,
It has appeared before in other
Huron COunitY PuibiticiationS
various times and is designed
philmarily for and about women
who have learned to take life
wiith grab of salt And a
sense of burnout. -
xn Part mien the Pon tent is
geared 'to the woman who finds
herself married, child blessed
and budget-cursed.
Experts advise columnists to
write about subjects which are
familiar to them. Believe me,
as chief cook, diaper- dipper and
mess-maid at the Keller house-
hold for nigh onto 1.2 years, 1
feel qualified to comment on
the plight of domestic engineers
everywhere,
Just as an indication, of the
type of earth-shaking thoughts
to be found in this space, let's
take a look at woman's worst
workload — dishwashing.
Some man. hos 'figured out
that the average bOUsewlfe does
dishes 1,095 times per year,
This •estimate, of Murte, is bas-
ed on 'a man's mis-guided as-
sumption that the little woman
washes dishes only three times
a day for $65, days. Boy, is that
a ingh,
Almost Any morning in the
Year, Morn gets up to a sialt full
Of dirty dishes. They have been
placed, there — or scattered
about the home — by one 81-113*
ping, snacking husband and any
number of corn-popping, chip,
dipping children.
IVIld-mooning, immediately
after the dishes are gleaming
and polished, some smiling tele-
vision teaches' tells the romper-
room set, ',Now children, it is
milk and cookie time, Asit your
mammy to bring a big eas
milk and a big plate of cookies
into the liming-room so you
won't miss a single Minute of
the cartoon."
Result? A complete vacuum-
cleaning job and more dishes.
Right after lunch, the tele-
phone brings hubby's voice to
you. He's invited Harry and
Gertrude and their five off-
(Continued on page eight)
thanked their friends for the
most Cherished honour. They-
were also presented with
large, decorated :cake inscribed,..
"Rest Wishes from the W.A:".
Mrs, Ross Middleton, as Well
as being the ,charming hostess
for this large meeting, Was .also
the special speaker on as $14,10
jest of unique interest, Mrs.
Middleton conducts two art
classes at CRS$ night school
and her „subject was "Stand,
ards for judging Art quality",
She illustrated the points of
harmony, balance, proportion,
rhythrii and emphasis: by a gen-
eral lecture followed by pertte,
ular reference to many of her
own lovely paintings. "Nature,
shows a gradual change from
season to Season from day to
night and there _order and
unity in 'the -whole," stated Mrs.
Middleton.
"The sunset comes at close
of day; when work is almost
done and by its . compelling
beauty, lifts the eyes .of men
from ,earth to the heavens.
"The moon awl planets and
myriads of starts light the earth
with a ;silvery sheen an. top
the ocean waves with gold.'
"At every hour of the day, at
every season of the year, 'beau-
tiful, colorful and everchanging
canvases are spread before
those who have eyes to see and
appreciate," -
The ladies present were con-
ducted on a tour of the spacious
_rooms in the Middleton home
enhanced by many of Mrs. Mid-
dleton's. paintings..
The St. James' ladies served
a lovely lunch at the beautifully
appointed table highlighted- by
the W.A. cake..
