(Lucy R. Noodsi
Lucy has been sitting looking out the window watching
the wind wiepping long canes of climbing rases back and
forth on the KO. They should have been tied down to
the arch 'ere this. She fears they will be damaged.

One Might- have considered the miniature hurricane
which lashed. Bayfield on September 22, the beginning qf
the traditional gales at this season. Or was in the tail end
of "Betsy"?

At such tine, 'the 'hand pump on the well, the old: ice -hoe,
the cool pantry, the milk 'cellar, and root cellar of pioneer
days seem rather &salable':
At "The Hut" the damage was cenfined to the flowers.
The wind and deluge of rain spoiled a grand showing of
asters, so that "Mr." couldn't find seven perfect specimens
to enter in the Bayfield Fall Fade. Nor did there Seem to
be enough zinnias at a casual glance, so he just overlooked
the rest. But he was intrigued 'with the entries in the
miinti-
ature bouquet lass, so Lucy predicts he'll talce more than
a glance et the garden flowers next year.
Last Spring they was the recipient of some special
double sunflower seeds' from a gentleman living in Conneaut,
Ohio, bearing her surname. They grew about nine feet high
and were in full bloom when the storm struck the choice
ones dram. in their beauty. Now Way fears there won't be
any seed for next year, as "Mr." has noted- the black -capped
chickadees inspecting the flowers heads frequently.
Helped by the blue jays, those friendly little, chickadees
have long since cleaned up a large head of ordinary sun-
flower seeds which bowed itself almost to the ground. A
bird Mutt have dropped the seed in the garden last spring.
One day last week, Lucy observed her spouse clapping,
his hands and looking up enxiously as he walked from the
barn. . -
-what was the matteae?" Lucy enquired. "A big hawk
was about to light on our TV aerial" he refilled. "What was
It, a red Shouldered or ranch -legged hawk?" she asked, "I
don't know" was the answer. "Why didn't you let it settle

Employment High
fluron; New
Loiv InSeptember
.
During September, general
employment conditionsen Gode-
rich and Huron County reached
the highest level in many years.
C. M. jutras, manager of the
National' Employment Office,
stated that the number of ap-
plicants registered for employ-
ment in Huron County at the
end of September 1965 was the
lowest ever: 134 as compared
with 202 registered applicants
in September 1964.
Irwreased' employment oppor-
tunities resulted from contin-
ued high production levels be-
ing maintained in most local
and area firms, Seasonal in-
dustries including constructibn,
farming and canning were also
greatly responsible for this in-
crause.
While labour requirements
were generally met, the demand
for 'all typee of workers often
exceeded the supply.
