Books to assist in the education of pre-school children, elementary school children, and high school stu- dents were' made- available to the mothers during the evening. Present were the ladies who teach religious courses in the local school. Mrs. Marcel Cher- let and assistants were in charge of refreshinents. Davies and °wet Kerr of Benmiller attended the -Mil- Thomas Millar Funeral Held Wed., Sept. 22 Thomas Park :Millar, form- erly of Loindesboro, passed away at Huronview on Sunday, Sep-. ternlber 19 in his 97th year. He was born in Howick Township on March 13, 1869, a son of John Millar and Margaret Cow- an of Ayr, Scotland. He was the youngest and only survivor of a family of ten, His :parents diced when he was a sreall bay and he went to live with his uncle, the late Robert Scott of Hullett Town- ship. Mr. • Millar was twice mar- ried: His first wife' was Edna Lee who passed away iii 1918. His second wife, the former. Maude B. Quackenbush whom he married on September 28, 1922, predeceased him in 1957. He was a member of Landes- boro United Church and Hullett Lodge AF and AM. He is ‘survived by one son Hugh of Londesboro; two dau- ghters, Mrs. J. A. (Elsie) Mc- Cool of Windsor and Mrs. Frank (Eileen) Potter of Clin- ton; and a nephew Robert J. 1Vaillar, Bay City, Mich. Funerel service was from the Ball and Mutch Funeral Home on ,September 22 with Rev. Harold Snell, London, offici- ating. Interment was in Blyth Union Cemetery. Maaskant Funeral Sept. 21 Cornelius Maaskant, who passed away Tuesday, Septem- ber 21. in a train-car collision on Highway 8 at Goderich was buried in Clinton Cemetery last Friday. Rev. George G. Hear- sink of the Christian Reformed Church, Clinton, officiated. The deceased was born May 7, 1917 in Holland, a son of John and Cornelia Maaskant. He married Arum Van Eerden of Colborne Township in Nov- ember of 1946, The couple has lived in this area for the past 15. years. Mr. Maaskant was an elder in the Christian Reformed Ch- urch and .a member of the Ont- ario Broiler Chicken. Producers' Marketing Board. SurVivors include his wife; five sons, John, Hugo, Robert, Charles, :and Michael, all nit home; three daughters, Freida, Nellie and Mona, all at home; his mother in, Holland; two brothers Hugo and Arid, bath in Holland; and two sisters, Miss Marie of Holland and Mrs, Ralph (Jean) Westra, Aylmer, Hugo and Marie Maaskant, brother- and sister of the de- ceased, arrived by plane from Holland for the funeral ge&lee. Ontario St. UCW Unit Four Holds Business Meeting Unit Four of Ontario Street United Church held its regular Meeting on Monday evening in the church with a good attend- ance. Mrs. Ross Trewartha, group leader, opened the meeting and the business followed, Mrs. Trewartha reminded the _ladies. of the Fall, Thankoffer- ing meeting to: be held on Sun- day evening, October 24 and also of the bazaar to be held on December 4. The roll call for the next meeting is to be, "bring an arti- cle for the bazaar." The devotional period was led by Mrs. Bert Gray assisted by Mrs. George Coiclough. Mrs. Francis Powell had charge of the Study Book, deal- ing with the first chapter, "What is the meaning of life?" A very' interesting report of the Leadership training school, held at Alma College, St. Thom- as, was given by Mrs. Norman rrewartha. On Tuesday, September 14, seven members journeyed to the Ontario Hospital at Gode- rich and presented a program for the patients in one of the wards. That evening, the regular meeting was preceded. by a pot luck supper. An invitation was received from the Woo.dham Lodge -to attend their birthday party early Octoiber. Clinton members. decided not to hold card parties this year but to invite each member to donate $5 to make up the money that would have been earned. Attendance was only fair at the dessert euchre where the door prize was won 'by Mrs. Kay .Cox and the draw by Mrs. Tom Leppington. High lady was Mrs. Gertrude Glazier and' low lady was Mrs, R. Cox. Mrs. Pearl Cummings won the prize for the most lone hands. The ladies plan another des- sert euchre for October 20. 0 LONDESBORO Thankoffer ing The Bereau. Personals The Womens Institute will hold its meeting to entertain the grandmothers on Thursday, October 7. This will be a dinner meeting with dinner to be. serv- ed at 1 p.m. sharp. None of the Institute grandmothers are re- quired to bring lunch. There will be as bake sale at the close of the meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Anderson left by train on Monday for a trip to B.C.
