Mill rates which will apply
to the village of Bayfield for
1965 were agreed upon at
council's regular' bi-monthly
meeting recently and repreAent
a total reduction of 1.95 mills
as compared to 1964.
Commercial rate is set at
15.5 mills with residential rate
at 17.5 mills. County rate is
15,5 Mills; public school com-
mercial, 8 mills; public school
residential, 7 mills; high school
residential, 16 mills; high sch-
ool commercial, 18 mills; and
separate school residential, 13

authorizing the payment ofa
license fee 'of -$5 per year by
fuel dealers. Par the remainder
of 1965, half fee will apply and
the license year will be from
January 1 to December 31.
Councillor Oddliefson report-
ed that five extra street lights
had been installed, including
one the west end of the
north deck of :the harbour.
A 'communication was 'read
from the office of the Minister
of Public Works to say that a
second detailed site survey had,
started the week of .August
and 'that when the final report
had been received and reviewed'
the Minister wand aciviee the
village council of the depart-
ment's decision as to repairs
and extension of the 'harbour.
Council dlisoussed the, pro-
blem of weeds on vacant pra-
perties 'and hoped that individ-
uals would assume their re—
sponsibilities without action by
Council.
Council 'also reviewed the
school problem 'and noted that
the Minister of Education had
promised follow-up action after
the visit of the BaYflead dele-
gation last month. Word has
not been received yet 'but is ex-
pected Shortly.
Council discussed the prob-
lem of catch basins and drains,
Records are hat available as to
the location of, some of our
drains and. residents of the vil-
lage who 'may have knowledge
of their location are asked to
pass this !information to the
road superintendent, J, Lindsay
or Councillors McFadden and
Ociclatifson.
'Council 'decided' that a pleb-,
incite will be held 'at the time
of the fall election 'to decide
whether the ratepayers wish
to accept the. principle of stag-
gered eleciiions. IC' approved,
this would be effective Jan 1,
1967 and would prOvidd 'for
