"OVER THE GATE"
Miss Read,
There is no plot, but the
characters are delightfully por-
trayed in this latest book by
"Miss 'Read", 'a pseudonym of
someone who surely must have
-taught school at one 'time.
A number of interesting tales
are casually woven into the
routine life of the small EngliSh
village school. 'One of the al-
most forgotten legends of the
neighbourhood is related by 'the
sexton, who has heard the story
in his youth.
It.„concerus 'the strange care.
eer of Sally Gray, who was a
victim, of 'a humdrum existence,
sadly overweight, Who could
not regain a better figure by
dieting. In a period of cleaning
out old and useless things from
her old home she finds an ald
recipe in an anierut, book —
An inflallible receipt for losing
weight — which she tries out
with humorous consequences.
"Over The Gate" will make ex-
cealent pastime reading.
