Engineering At
Burned Out Mine
AUBURNe-eMr. and Mrs. Ma-
jor Younghlutt, RA, 1 Auburn,
received word recently that
their eldest. son, Keith, is the
planning engineer to restore the
working operation at the Mac:
Iretyre Gold Mine at Sehirmach-
er near .Tinemins which suffered
a $1,000,090 fire which burned
for two weeks,
The fire ,is 'believed to have
been started by welders who
had let a piece of hot metal
drop to the 'lower part of the
mine, Extensive repairs are un-
der way and • when completed
gold mining Will be resumed.
The copper mines there are now
in - operation again. •
Fires do not often happen in
mine's but in 1938, the Hollinger
mine lost 38 miners. Fortun-
ately- not many miners were
working on the night shift this
time as the fire had been burn-
ing over 12 hours before it was
discovered. The assis:bant mine
Manager died of • a heart attack
and •a miner died of suffocation.

School classes to be their guests.
Bob Glen. returned from his
recent trip to New York, a boat
trip to the Bahamas and the
Caribbean Sea, - Puerto.. Rico
and other points of interest. On
returning to New York he visit-
ed in Florida before his return.
Paul Oudmore has been en-
gaged as a recruit in the Royal
Canadian Mounted Police and
is en route to Regina where he
will be in training for several
months.

Mrs. H. Jenkins
Died Last Week
Mrs. Emma Lenora Jenkins
of Clinton passed away in Clin-
ton Public HoseelflaR on Monday,
February 22 in her 91st year.
She was born in Tuckersmith
Township to Thomas and Mary
Ann Carter. She married Har-
vey Jenkins in February, 1902
and farmed in Goderich Town-
ship until 1943. She has since
resided in Clinton. Mr. Jenkins
died in 1959.
Mrs. Jenkins was a member
of Wesely-Willis United Church;
also was a member of the Clin-
ton Women's Institute and the
Clintonian Club.
The funeral service was held
from Ball and Match Funeral
Home on Wednesday, February
24, at 2 p.m. Rev. C. G. Park
officiated.
The pallbearers were Roy
.Tyncleill, George Potter, Arnold
Jamieson, Gorden Jehkins, Ivan
Carteret-rid Elwin Merrill; Flow-
er-bearers were Clifford Shah-
brook and Leonard Jamieson
Interment was in Clinton Cem-
etery.
She is survived by her sister,
Mrs. Effie Jamieson, three niec-
es and two nephews.

AUBURN---The genetal meet-
ing of Knox United Church Wo-
men was held ineeth,e Sunday
school room with a large attend-
ance.
The membere. of Unit Two
were in charge with Mrs. Nor-
man Wightmen as - pianist. The
theme of the meeting was "Dep-
ression." • The call 'to worship
was given by Mrs. Johh Hilde-
brand and she led -in prayer.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph D. Mun-
ro. .showed their 'very intereet-
ing pictures of their trip to the
West Coast last summer, Mrs.
John Hildebrand thanked them.

read the paper on Christian
SteWeardship of Time. After
singing 'a 'hymn, Mrs. Hilde-
brand closed with -prayer.

gave their reports. Mrs. William
J. Craig and Mrs. Lawrence

tee to be in charge of a Sunday

April and after discussing other
business, Mrs. Craig closed with

class for block printing in the
Auburn - Community Hall with
Mrs. Toynbee Lamb and Mrs.
Wilmer Hardy of Colborne
Township as the instructors.
Many beautiful designs were

their work at the summary day
at Seaforth on Wednesday.

Heneell Public School enjoyed
a holiday owing to severe wea-
ther conditions. Principal Rob-
ert Reaburn started he has been
principal of the school for 12
years and this is the first time
he recalls the school being clos-
ed due 'to weather elements and
road conditions,

A bid has been accepted for
the purchase of the nurses' res-
idence at Scott Memorial Hos-
pital, Seaforth. which will be va-
cated in mid-June when the
new Seaforth 'Community Hos-
pital is expected to be ready for
occupancy.
The bid of Ronald Savauge, of
Seaforth, of $13,525, has been
accepted. •

Children's. Hospital., London, a
week age Monday, and 'under-
went surgery on his ,Loot on
Wednesday, since then he had
an _attack of the flu. We hope
