Because of the extreme wea-
ther conditions experienced last
Saturday in the Clinton area,
the Exeter., squirt team was un-
able .• to compete; therefore,
Goderich won the first game
of the Clinton Minor Hockey
Day Squirt Tournament by de-
fault.
In the 10 o'clock game, Clin-
ton ousted Seaforth with a .6-2
shellacking and at 11:00Gode-
rich and Seafartli battled to a
2-2 lie in a consolation game.
In,the afternoon, after a Wee-
wee team from the RCAF Sta-
tion blanked a Clinton, team 5-0,
the Goderich squirts came back
to-win the tournament by clob-
bering •Clinton 10-4, For the
local squirts, it was the fourth
consecutive year as runner-up
in the competition.
'Oldtimdrs Play
Because the RCAF Peewee
teem was unable to make it to
town for a 3:00 p.m. game, a.
squad of aldtimers strapped on
the blades and donned Junior
Colt sweaters (except for X. W.
"Dan" Colquhoun, who 'wore
his shirt, tie, and suitcoat) and
matched their skills with those
of the town Pee-wees. Referee-
ing( ?) the game was bear-
born's Andy Petrere, The final,
score was not' available for
publication.

Once again this year, local
;.keglers and alleys will be com-
bining their efforts with TV
stations and the Carling Brew-
eries in, the annual bowl-off,
for the Carling Trophy.
The competitions began three
years ago with CKNX' Televi-
sion in Wingham taping match-
es which were broaddast on the
air at a later date. That year,
Joe Daer Of Clinton won the
trophy along with $75 cash and
a trip to Toronto where he
bowled on CBC television. Fer
this, he received, another $100
plus two days in the city, all
expenses paid,
Lest year, 12 ,television sta-
tions began their own tourna-
ments, each station having its
own Carling 'Trophy. Winner
in the Wingham area wase once
again Joe Daer. In that series,
winners received $10 per, game,'
and' Mr. Daer received, the
Carling Trophy plus $135 cash
at the end.
Big Prizes
In 1965, the same 12 stations
are •again televising matches,
each one with its own trophy,
but at -the end' of each local
competition, the area winners
will travel 'to Toronto Where
they will bowl off for grand
prizes. There will be prizes fir
each of the 12 finalists, the
first prize being a 1965 Corvair
convertible. Second prize will
be an outboard Motor and boat;'
third prize, a ten-day trip for
two to MexiCo. ,
This year; bowlers from God-
erich, Clinton, ' Londesboro,
Blyth, Mitchell and Luelenow
competed at the lanes., in Mit-
chell with the top four' receiv-
ing the right to advance into
the roll-off for the. Carling.
Trophy in this area., The top
four bowlers of the day were
Bill Brown, Seaforth; Don Mc-
Whinney, Goderich; Bob ,Wil-
liams, Goderich (Williams has
since been defeated and is out'
of the running), and -Once again
Joe Deer of Clinton.
Daer will be bowling his first
taped match oh February 13

Saturday night's first genie.

Game Was 'Closer Than 8Oore
In the third period, Macaulay
scored two more for Clinton
when he potted one at 1:36
assisted by, Colquhoun_and
Schoenhels, and another a the
9:32 Mark oh a pass from left-
winger John McPherson. The
final tally was' netted 19 sec-
onds later when Rick Fremlin
scored with helle from, Ken Col-
son.
Although the score does not
indicate it, the St. Sebastiane
put up a great fight, doing al-
most everything but scoring.
Their netminder, ,Marrs,
played an outstanding game,
making many impossible saves
and keeping the game fairly
even instead of a one-sided
match.
Midgets Cruise To Win
•
The Clinton Lions Midgets
scored seven goals in the third
peribd to wallop the visiting
Dearborn club 10-3 in the final
tilt of the Clinton Minor Hoc-
key Day program -last Saturday
night.

with two .goals in the first

later date. The, first will com-
mence •at 1:00 ' p.m. when Bill
Brown of Seaforth will bowl
against Ian Maclaurin of Wing-
ham and the second will be at
3:00 between Archie 'McIntyre
of Owen Sound and Father
Hawkins of Durham. T h e
Brown-MacLaurin match will
be televised oh CKNX, Channel
8, February 15 with the second
tieing broadt'ast the following
week. The television, program
will be seen Saturday evenings
for 30 minutes starting at 6:30.
The public is invited to come
to the alley and watch, the
matches in persen without
charge. -

Entertainment reached a peak every time the Wee-wee teams stepped on
