Clinton Town Council Appears To Be Sold On Joining Mid.WODA (Continued from page one) out of the association a num icer . of times in the past. I was sorry to see Clinton drop out just because of the coat of membership. We need industry here and I would like to see Clinton back in." Give Consideration Council decided members would give "serious considera- tion" to re -joining Mid-WODA, and decide at the next meet- ing, inviting—in the meantime —comment from citizens and local businessmen. Hal Hartley, attending the meeting as an observer, said he .hoped. Clinton council would reconsider rejoining Mid-WODA "I don't think we could find a better use for $200," he seed. "Maybe some time we will have to spend thousands to do what Mid-WODA could db for us." Mayor Symons thanked Mr. Urquhart . for coming 'to the Clinton Council May Undertake Sidewalk Cleaning (Continued from page one) X for removing their snow from kr front of 'their shops, Measure up their frontage and charge' them so much per foot, I know I'd be happy if all I had to do was pay a little extra tax to have the toWn take away the snow in front of my shop and I think .a lot _of the other merchants would be too. Let the business people who profit from the snow removal from their .sidewalks pay the shot. Council agreed to give the matter considration and discuss it at greater length at the next meeting. "I feel Mr. Urquhart was sincere and I personally feel joining Mncl- WODA Would be a step in the right direction," Mr, Symons said. Thanks Council Mr. Garon in turn thanked council for 'taking the time to listen to Mr, Urquhart, "I want to thank council for the warm atmosphere I felt here tonight," - he said. "It is quite a different atmosphere than in the past. I felt in the past I would get knocked down if I came to a council meeting." Councillor Armstrong said he wanted to know why Clinton had lost two industries in re- cent years. He had heard rum- ors, he said, but he wanted to know the real reasons so such would not be repeated again .to the disadvantage of the ;town. "Ihave 'said it here before and been condemned for saying it," Mr. Garan answered him from the floor. "But the people responsible should have a bell hanging 'over their heads so we could all give it a bong as we walk past them." Lack Of Interest Mr. Garon said he was: one of the four men from Clinton who attended a meeting in Taranto with officials of the• Canada Packers plant. The company was planning tobuild a plant at Clinton which need- ed a $240,000 sewer. The com- pany 'was willing to pay for $80,000 of .the sewer if ;the 'town would pay the balance. They needed an immediate answer and urged the Clinton delegat. es. to return • to Clinton as soon as possible to see how council. felt about the matter. Mr. Gaeon said the delegation returned to Clinton and held a special meeting about wheth- er or not to buy a new truck. Three weeks later the sewer matter was brought up despite a subsequent telephone call from a company official urging expedition of the matter. "A complete lack 'of interest and co-operation last us that industry," Mr. Garon said. No one present at the meeting con- tradicted his opinion. "It still straightens my bris- tles to talk about that," the Chamber of Oommeree preei- dent •said, Following informal d'is'cus- sion the meeting was adjourn- ed. G Webb Named Huron.
