As the daily newspaPers have rOortpd, the
R03741, Canadian Mint in Ottawa was obliged
cease accepting orders for 1965 mint sets at 4 p_in.
on .Saturday, January 2, 1905. By that time, 125
bags of mail orders had been received, enough to
account for the entire planned 1965 prodgetinn of
two million sets. Another 1.00 bags were received.

on their coinage, The likeness
was designed by Arnold Mach-
in, Master of Sculpture at The
Royal Academy Schools in Lon-
don, and was selected by The
Royal Mint Advisory Commit-
tee.

In the new 'design, Her Maj-
esty's features have been aged
slightly, and her shoulders
draped. She wears a diamond
tiara, replacing the laurel leav-
es in her hair. The tiara was
presented as a wedding gift by
the late Queen Mary.
This change in portrait fol-
lows the practice during the
reign of Queen Victoria. Every
So often, Queen Vctoria's port-
rait would be changed, and
there is a striking difference
between the 'first coinage of
1837, showing a young girl with
her hair in a bun, and the last
coins of 1901, showing a heav-
ily-veiledroad lady. The younger
collectors will be able to fol-
low the parallel through this
era.
The new coinage will be
available in the Toronto area
near the end of January, and
should "filter" up this way
about a week later. It will be
like watching for the first rob-
in.
