Signal honour has been ac-
corded Frank Fingland, Q.C., in
his appointment as Huron
County Judge to succeed the
late Judge T. M. Costello.
The third annual fall sale of
the Huron County Hereford As-
social:ion held last Thursday iai
the Clinton fair barns saw 31
white-faced cattle soli for
$8,470, an average of $273.23,
Nine hundred and twenty-
nine voters visited the polls in
Clinton on Monday to register
their choices of municipal lead-
ers for 1955.
A young man, Joseph MeKay
(alias John James McKay) who
has been in the Clinton district
for a month, was arrested. early
Saturday morning, and is
lodged in Huron County jail at
Goderich charged with obtain-
ing goods and money by false
pretences, by means of worth-
less- cheques.
John Deeves, bachelor candi-
date for the Reeveship of God-
erich Township, won his title in
the election on Monday, with a
majority of 26 votes, over his
opponent, C. E. Laithwalte.
The setting for the double-
ring ceremony, performed • by
the Rev. C: A. Park, was in
front of the fireplace in the
home of the bride's parents on
Townsend Street in Clinton.

The bride is the daughter of
Mr, and Mrs. David Dales
Clinton and the groom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mc-
Keen of Minniota, Manitoba.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, chose a pale pink
dress with a pillbox hat with a
short white veil. She carried
red roses on a white Bible,
The Maid of honour was
Linda Dales of Clinton. She
wore a dress of winter white
with gold trim and a red rose
corsage.
Groomsman was D. R. Childs •
of Camp Borden.
UCW Fidelity Unit
Christmas Party
Attended By 27
The December meeting of the
Fidelity Unit of Wesley-Willie
UCW took the form • of a
Christmas party, arranged and
conducted by Mrs, F. Fingland
and Mrs. G. Rathwell, and at-
tended by 27 members and visi-
tors.
The party began at 1:00 p.m.
with a pot-luck luncheon serv-
ed in the Sunday School room
which was decorated for the
occasion. After the luncheon, -
Christmas music was played by
Mrs. Win. Heard on; her .accor-
clion and Mrs, Ken Johnston on
the piano.
The rest of the meeting took
place in the ladies' parlor,
where Mrs. Fingland conduct-
ed a worship service assisted
by Mrs. N, Shepherd and Mrs.
F. Andrews. Mrs. Rathwell
gave the Christmas readings,
and Mrs. Fingland presented an
article on social inequality in
Sonth Africa.
Special features of the pro-
gram were two displays—one of
objects from many lands, which
were shown and explained by
Mrs. R. Gin,: and one of dolls
from many countries, which
have been collected and were
shown by Mrs. Fingland.

December 11, 1924
The Commencement exercises
in connection with the Clinton
Collegiate were held in the
town hall On Thursday and Fri-
day evenings last, the whole
town and a geed part of the
sti.rricamding district turning out
to witness them,
Mr. Leonard Weir has sold
his farm, just oft the Base Line,
to Mr. George ‘Colclongh, who
will take possession shortly.
:Messrs. E. and H. Snell of
Htdlett, sons of Mr. James
Hullett's• well - known
breeder, returned on Tuesday
after an absence of about five
weeks attending the Winter
Stock Shows at Guelph, Toron-
to, and Chicago.

. December 7, 1939,
More excitement than has
been experienced in many years
was evident here on Monday in
one of the keenest contests
Clinton has had for municiPal
offices, All through the day
the candidates were busy bring-
ing voters to the polls and no
one Would venture a guess as
to the outcome, At 6,30 p.m.
the police office was packed to
the doors with ratepayers anx-
ious for the final returns. Ken
G. Waters received a majority
of 110 and is Clinton's new
mayor.
In the December issue of the
Canadian National Railways
are some fine snapshots sub-
mitted by Mr. J. 13.- Lobb, of
town. •
Late Sunday night or early
Monday morning a motorist
crashed the railway Switch at
the crossing immediately west
of the station and drove away.
The open switch was discovered
by Henry Simian as he was
coming uptown to work. He
reported what he had found
and flares were placed on the
track to warn the train,
George Belden of • Toronto is
in Midland hospital suffering
from injuries he received when
he upset the car he had stolen
from William Hovey, son of
Mr. J. E. Hovey of town.

December 8, 1940
Mr: and Mrs. David A,. Kay
and son, Donald, were enter-
tained at a surprise party by a
few relatives and friends, in the
Orange Hail, on Friday even-
ing, Dec. 3. The occasion was
in honor of the 25th. wedding
anniversary of Mr, and Mrs.
Kay.
At a recent meeting of the
Canadian Guernsey Breeders'
Association held in„ Toronto,
Samuel Rid:click, Clinton, was
made an honorary member:- -
Baydield, which has 'been but
a short time an independent
municipality, and is, in fact, the
youngest of the whole family
which make up the County of
Huron, had yet a "local halbita,.
ton and a name nearly a gen-
eration previous to the exist-
ence of what now are among
the largest and most prosperous
centres of trade within the
bounds of the whole of the old
Huron Tract. Both the local
habitation and the name were
given it by a, celebrated Eng-
lish engineer named Hayfield,
whose professional services the
Baron de Tuyil enlisted to come
to Canada and select a place in
the territory of the Canada
Company whereon to found and
build a town.
