There is a large group of
people that is particularly well
known. It is an authoritative
source for advice on all mat,

done and is basically opposed
to new ideas. It ie. known as

'Phis group has devoted a
great deal of attention to the
recent development of a Co-
operative organization Whose
purpose is to improve the live-
stock ,farmers' income through
the slaughtering .and, processing
of livestock through farmer-
owned meat processing plants,
If we make the 'best of lit,

selves more able to accept
larger ones.

better known as "TAME",
When' a few forward, think-
ing farmers decided to organ-
ize "FAME" co , operative
'They"- said it was a foolish
idea because "FAME" could
never gain the .support of the
farmers. gowever, much to
"Their" amazement "FAME"
co-Operative became a reality.
Now 'They' said, successively
that • "FAME" would never ac-
cumulate enough money, that
the money Was; all .gen,e and
that Management and person-
nel could not be acquired. In
fact, 'They' were sure that
"FAME" was on the brink of
failure that would ruin the
whele structure of farm or-
ganizatiorts in Ontario,
Due to dedication, deteratt,
ination arid fore - sight of a
great many farmers, 'Their'
prophecies have not come 'true.
Farmers did raise money, it
was not wasted on organiza-
tipn. As you no doubt are
aware !- "FAME" Co-Operative
purchased the Fearmen Com-
pany, located at Burlington,
Ontario !and the new manage-
ment was able to continue op-
erations, taking in livestock
and supplying product to the
trade without interruption.
No doubt 'They' will have a
great many things to say from
time to time;
Let us hope that farmers will
continue to press forward, in
spite of the doubts of the fear-
ful and develop marketing
methods to match their effic-
iency in production.

How's The Time
For Fertilizing
Turf And Lawns
Avoid Burning
The first figure of the fornr,
ula on the !bag indicates the
percentage of available nitro-
gen.
Thus, 10 pounds of a 10-6-4 -
ratio, five pounds of a 20-5-5
ratio or 14 pound's of a 7-7-7
ratio, Will supply 1 pound of
actual nitrogen.
Apply when the grass is dry,
and water in to avoid burning.
The final application of lawn
fertilizer should be put on no
later than mid - September,
according 'to horticulturalists
With the' Ontario Department
of Agriculture.
The application of plant
food will enable the grass to
develop a good r ot system
and harden off before winter
sets in.
Special_ turf fertilizers are
the most convenient to use and
should be applied at the rate
of one pound of actual nitro-
gen per 1,000 square feet of
lawn.
