The mardi gras (or summer carnival) was scheduled for Thursday, August 13, but wet weather forced a postponment to August 20. Then the wea- ther turned too cold for an out- door carnival and the Lions cancelled the affair for this year. Draw tickets will he honored at a. huge rummage sale early in September at the Lions Arena. However, with Dave Cooper relieving on the mound in the third inning and with some strong hitting and almost perfect fielding, the team took the lead by the sixth inning. Eighth Holmesville tied the score in the eighth inning as Robbie Holmesville Team Wins A ninth inning home run by Grant Sowerby with two men on base gave Holmesyille a 5-2 win over Auburn to tie the Central Huron Softball League finals at one game each. Farquhar reached first 'on en error and scored the tying run on 'a bit by Ron Pearson. In the ninth inning, Jerry Ginn started things off with a single and Don Yeo came through with another. Then, with two men on base and two out, -Grant Sowerby blasted out a belt-high line drive down the third base line and had rounded the bases before the left field- er could recover the bell. This gave Holmesville the game with a 5-2 victory and tied the series at one game each, - The winning pitcher was Bruce Betties and the losing pitcher was Ken Daer.
