Flowers Telegraphed Anywhere ""i Thurs., August , l9¢ -r-Clinton $ews Record. --Page :." Council Agrees ant Mutual Fire Aid . (Continued from, Page One) be at least6,040. $, , on op $8,000. cf Council 4gr'ees It wasn't too hard to set up the system in most of the other counties," MVir. Forbes expllained, "~because rest pf the counties contained cities or Towns where there already was a paid fire chief, "In Huron County, the fire depaatisnents are all volunteer, and no money was set aside in the budget of any Munici- pality to pay a chief's salary." Council agreed a mutual aid fire system would he a valuable asset to the protection of prop- erty in Clinton and the sur- rounding townships. Suggests Meeting Councillor Don Symons sug- gested the case of Huron Coun- ty mighit be Unique and should be treated as such with a view to perhaps getting some fin- ancial support from one of the senior governments. "Failing thait," he said "per- haps we could meet with the other towns in the county and see whether they might agree to each paying part of a fire chief's salary go 'the county could be set up on a mutual system." Mutual fire aid is a system whereby each community -or area of a county is protected by equipment in other nearby centres. Protects All If a major fire broke out in Clbtton, equipment could be called in from Brucefield and Seaforth. Equipment from Mit- dhell, for example, would move into Seaforth to provide pro- tection to that area, and one vehicle from Exeter would move up to Brudefie'ld to pro- tect that area. If more equipment was then needed in Clinton, the Exeter truck at Brucefield would move into Clinton, and a Londbn tr- uck would go to Exeter so an- other Exeter unit could cover Brucefield. Over the long run, no one community would be likely to benefit or lose, and all would have better protection, coun- cil was told. Plan Meeting Council agreed the Ontario fire marshall should be asked to invite reeves, deputy reeve's and fire chiefs from surround ing townships to come to Clin- ton in the near future to dis- cuss the proposition of Mutual fire aid. If the meeting could reach some agreement, the group then could go to county ooun- ell in a. solid body with a view to interesting other munl':ci palities and townships in IN - yen County in the idea, At ttliat stage, senior govern- ments could be 'approached for financial aid. No date for a meeting was set. PERSONALS Ellwood Epps will be a guest on the 'Don -McDonald Sports- man's show on CKCO-TV, lift ohener at, 1:15 p.m. on August 23 and August 3Q.
