"but I will say no more about

quiries about the second piece

In new business following
the Reeve's report, Councillor

Can't Spray Weeds
"I'm glad to see the Reeve
talking about wild carrot.
hope he'll get around to cut-
ting some of it."
Reeve Agnew retorted: "the
tractor is like you or me, it
can only be in one place at
once,"
Councillor Noonan asked
whether weeds in Clinton could
perhaps be killed with chemical
sprays, "so they won't grow up
again. It seemsthat cutting
them makes them grow more
quickly," he said.
Council agreed it would be
almost impossible to safely
spray weeds in town because
of the danger to privately own.-'
ed flowers, trees and shrubs,
on properties abutting w e ed
patches.

Radar Shelved
Mayor Miller said the pur-
chase of a radar timing device
which had been considered by
the police committee as a de-
terrent to speeding Motorists
had been temporarily shelved.
The Police Committee earl-
ier had recommended the pur-,
chase of a radar set when it
handed down a three-point res-
olution at a special meeting
June 1. The other two recom-
mendations - including t h e
hiring of a fourth police officer
- have already been imple-
mented.
Mr. Miller said the two-
month delay in deciding the
purchase of a radar set was
because "we wanted to investi-
gate every possibility as to
what Was best for Clinton be-
fore we spent money",

He said the ceininittee had
ultimately decided that cornµ
rinuticatiOns were more import-
ant than radar.

"Was there anything in the

No councillor questioned the
code,
"Anyone building in Clinton
under 'any recognized finance
company, NHA, etc., must, con-
form to the bylaw," Councillor
Duff Thompson said.
"Right now you can build a
pig pen in Clinton if you wish
. . if it is not financed. If we
adopt a building code, we are
merely elevating the building
practices and bringing them in
line with uniform construction
practices in Canada.
No Cost
"This is not going to cost
the town one nickel," he con-
tinued. "If this bylaw is good
enough for all the towns and
cities across Canada, why not
have it here? Is there any-
thing in the bylaw that is not
good for Clinton?"
"The bylaw cannot be en-
forced without inspectors who
would cost money," councillor
Noonan replied.
"But the bylaw does not say
we must have an inspector,"
Mr. Thompson insisted. "All it
says in the code is that in the
