workers, who devote a great
.deal of their time to public ser-
vice. They are as a rule integs
ral parts of the EMO, and as-
s'ist the normal communications
agencies during disasters when
these usual outlets are over-
loaded.
The Clinton Amateur Radio
Club did a. great deal of this
work in the late 40's when they
operated for over a week during
the Winnipeg Flood, and for a
similar period of time passing
emergency messages during the
rail strike, when telegraph ser-
vice was disrupted across the
country.

Dellar-Haw Wedding Solemnized
At St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
Dawna Elean Raw became the bride of Douglas
Marvin Dellar on Saturday, June 20, 1964, in St.
Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
irrg, it was hard to' digest,
seems to me it was accused of
encouraging gall - stones, in
some vague sort of wey.
It hurt hog sales and had
a depressing effect on the mar-
ket for quite an extended per-
iod. In fact Canada's consump-
tion of pork is 'still 11 pounds
per person, per annum, less
than the United States in spite
of a better product and a cold-
er climate. •
When studies were made it
was proven that the accusations
were without foundation. In
fact it was found that pork had
a certain food value that was
particularily beneficial, but I
doubt. that pork has even. yet
regained its rightful place in
our diet.
Much more recently the dairy
industry, particularily butter,
was a villain. It caused heart
trouble. But let's get away
from science. In United States,
where butter consumption is
much lower and the ccirisump-
ton of margarine. is much
higher, heart trouble is also
much more common.
In the far north, where the'
consumption of animal fats is
much higher, heart trouble is
practically unknown. Certainly
in countries where dairy pro-
ducts are deficient the standard
of health is much lower. Of
course, it has been now proven
that a great many factors
causeheart trouble and the
ingredients ' of our diet have
little, if anything,• to do with
it. After 'all our 'lives are so
ordered that we must die. Since
our chances of dying from
measles, smallpox, TB, pneu-
monia etc., are fewer it is also •
more likely that we will die
of heart trouble.
Then, of course., there is to-
bacco or more specifically, cig-
arettes. Presently cigarette
smoking has become desperat-
ely dangerous because of lung
cancer. However, pipes and
cigars are OK. How many of
you remember when pipe smok-
ing caused lip and throat can-
cer? The very cheap and mod-
set clay pipe was a particelr-
ily bad offender. The result —
I haven't seen a 25 cent clay
pipe on the market for years
and years. There are plenty
of pipes 81.25 and up.
I wonder how much, air
polution from 'the carbon mon-
oxide fumes of motor cars af-
fects us. Remember city dogs
have more lung cancer than
country dogs and the increased
incidence of lung cancer, in
Women, corresponds. with the
increased use of nylon stock-
ings.
There were two reasons for
these promotions,. the good
sounding one and the real one.

der Why.

I WONDER Wily(
l)t has been said that a man
has two reasons for his ac-

sounding" reasons but little can
really be accomplished if the
real reason is obscured. •
