C. Bennett. A total of 175 persons signed the guest book and were wel- comed by Mrs. L. Forest who directed them 'to the display in the auditorium, Mrs. Mary Mellis, occupa- tional therapist at Huronview, displayed a 'wide range of art- icles made by residents which included embroidered pillow- cases, braided and hooked mats and quilts,, paintings, cushions and aprons. Served Tea Mrs. Ralph Jewell and Mrs. James Hayter, of Dasbwood, wife of the chairman of the county home cormnittee, pour- ed tea for the first hour, after which Mrs. F. Thompson and Mrs. J. Higgins, of Blyth, did the honors. Mrs. M. McAdam handled re.. freshments, and tours of Hur- onview were carried on during the afternoon. The first issue of the Huron- view News was distributed to residents. Mrs. James Parkins, of Zurich, won the draw, a gold stole. Acting committee chairman Everett V. Mellwain repotted EMO county co-ordinator W. Stuart Forbes had been success- ful in interesting area police departments in training auxili- ary police for the county. Senior governments would pay 90 percent of the cost of the uniforms, and the county's share would 'he 10 percent, Mr. McIiwain said. The recommendation must be approved by the 'provincial and federal governments. The theme of the Conference was "To whom much is given, much shall be required". A bus trip during late sum- mer was discussed. Guest speaker, Mrs. John McLean, of Tuckersmith, gave a splendid as well as informative talk 'on the work of the WI. She is a member -of the Provincial Board and is going as a delegate to the convention in Nova Scotia to be held shortly. An accordion instrumental was given by Barbara Burns which was enjoyed. The hostess served a salad plate at the close, 0- Centennial Park For Goderich Huron County Council has agreed to purchase the triangle of land at the intersection of Essex, Cobourg and Wellesley Streets for the development of a civic park as a centennial project. The project still requires fed- eral and provincial approval. The land would be purchased from Dr, Jean Mallough, of London, for $17,500. The death of ' Mrs. Reg, Sturdy brings sorrow to her many friends in the township. Mrs, Marion Porter DavidSon, of Goderich Township, is tour- ing Europe and the British Isles. Mr. George Cowan who has been in Westminster Hospital for the past week is in critical condition. Mrs. Cowan went to London on Monday to be with him.
