Chestnut Tree
Blown Down
At Bayfield
HAYFIELD — Living up to
its soubriquet, Bayfield lost one
of its beautiful trees on Sun-
day evening.
At the height of a storm, a
large horse chestnut free, some
40 feet high and six feet in
circumference, located in the
garden of Mrs. 'R. H. F. Gaird-
her, snapped off about 10 feet
above 'the ground. Crashing
heavily it tore limbs off a
large maple tree. -
Your Bayfield correspondent
inspected the debris and saw
no evidence of damage by
lightning, but She noticed that
the wood appeared very dry, al-
though the foliage and bloom
were abundant.
