tional disaster fund among
Kinsmen Clubs to raise $50,000
to assist the British Columbia
town of Port • Alberni, heavily
damaged recently by earth-
quake and tidal wave. ,
After opening business ses-
sions, 'Saturday, the convention
gathered 800-strong at Kenwick
Terrace for the annual evening
of entertainment, traditionally
devoted to skits by various
clubs, especially those sponsor-
ing governor candidates.
• Larry, Woods, a 12-year mem-
ber of the Preston Scout House
Band, brought the band with
him in his 'bid for the gover-
norship.
The Clinton Club staged a
hootenanny and 50 members of
the Chatham club put on a floor
show.
The Clinton Kinsmen, as well
as supporters from the Goderich
and Wingham clubs were dress-
ed 'in red academic gowns and

STRATFORD — Thomas 'J.
Flood, for ten years industrial
commissioner for -the City of
Stratford and manager of the
Stratford Chamber of Com-
merce, has been appointed Bus-
iness Development Manager of,
British Mortgage and Trust
Company. The appointment was
announced this week by Wilfred
P. Gregory, Q.C., President 'and
Managing Director of the Com-
pany.
Several months ago Mr.
Flood resigned from his dual
post serving the city of Strat-
ford, to accept a position with
a company elsewhere in On-
tario.
When negotiations with that
company .failed to proceed sat-
isfactorily, Mr. Flood 'said he
'decided to accept an offer from
Mr. Gregory to. j iii n British

Grand Parade On Arriving Home

teacher theme.
When news of the victory in
electing Malt as governor rea-
ched Clinton on Sunday after-
noon, Kinsmen and 'other in-
terested persons began 'arrang-
ing a receptiim and parade for
four o'clock Monday.
Two convertibles, one carry-
ing the governor and his wife,
and another with Bob Mann,
public speaking winner, and his
wife, and a tandem wagon with
the Kin 'and Kinettes paraded
through 'town,
The parade was made up at
the CNR station, moved up
King Street, onto Albert Street
to 'town limits, then back 'to
Huron and Ontario Streets,
ending up at Hotel Clinton,
Bandmaster George Wonch
had assembled part of the Mar-
ching Royals Band and played
near the hotel. Many Clinton-
lens were out to greet the cav-
alcade.
Public Speaking
Another CHSS teacher, Bob
Mann who had won the zone
"B" public speaking at Shel-
bourne last month, added an-
other trophy at the Sarnia con-
ference. .
He won the Harbinson trophy,
emblematic of DistriCt 1 public
speaking champion.
Clintonian Club
Plans Picnic,
Picks Delegates
The Clintonian Club met at
the 'home of Mrs. John. Aiding-
ton, Varna, May 12 at 2;00 p.m,
The president opened the meet-
ing with housewife creed and'
the Lord's Prayer. Minutes of
the last meeting were read and
the treasurer's report was read.
Correspondence was read ,and
dealt with and bills were pre-
sented and.. moved to be paid,
Roll call was answered by 20
members. The sick' and visiting
committee reported and the
work committee gave out print.
The club is sending three
members to the spring banquet
in London in June. The club
chose June 24 for their annual
picnic.
Mrs. Louis Forest offered her
home for the June meeting;
Mrs. Forest won the. mystery
prize. Program coMmittee will
be Mrs. Mac Falconer and Mrs,
T. Leppingtan; lunch, Mrs. C.
Venner, Mrs. J. Akilington, Mrs.
R. Fremlin. Mrs. M. Nivins and
Mrs. H. Siornan. Meeting closed
with the Mizpah benediction
and lunch was served. The re-
mainder of the afternoon was
spent playing bingo.
