Fred Merlo To Appear On TV This Saturday, May 16, Fred Merlo, Clinton will be seen on CKNX television, Channel 8, at 6:45 p.m .Fred is one of the bowlers competing,, in The. Ch- ampionship of Bowling for the Carling Cup, and this Saturday you'll see him bowling against Ralph Hare, Owen Sound, Clinton's Top Bowler And His' Trophies Joe Daer, Clinton businessman and one of the top five-pin bowlers in Western Ontario has amassed nearly 40 trophies in the past four years. Pie, tuned here-on one of the new snooker tables at Gordon Lawson's billiard parlor are some of Joe's prizes. The big trophy to his right is the Carling singles five- pin .bowling award., which he won on Sunday at Walkerton. Daer now bowls off in the CBC-TV finals. He was captain of the Clinton six-man team' which won the Carling team trophy on Saturday, also at Walkerton. Another prize' trophy won this year by Daer's team in the Bell Telephone league is the Al Harper memorial trophy second from the left. A charter member of Clin- ton Lions Club, and president in 1940-41, and member of its executive for many years, he served as 'treasurer for 27 years. In 1961 be was treasurer for the George H. Jefferson Appreciation Fund. Mr. Pennebaker was a mem- ber of WeSley-Willis United Ch- urch and on the official board and committee of stewards. A former member of Murphy Lodge, L.O.L. No. 710, Clinton he 'also held office of deputy master in Imperial Lodge 2767, Toronto in 1929, returning to his former home town that year. On Sunday evening the. Clin- ton Lions Club held a service at 8 p.m. and at a p.m. the Masonic service under the aus- pices of Clinton Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 84. Mr. Pennebaker had travelled extensively through. Canada and t h e United States from coast to coast, a pleasure wh- ich both he and his wife greatly enjoyed. In 1947 he was married to the former Rhea Ferrol Hig- gins who survives, along with two nephews, Albert Watts, Toronto; William Watts, Osha- wa; three nieces, (Verna) Mrs. Charles Chaniton; (Margaret), Mrs. Joseph E. Elliott; (Flor- ence), Mrs. Richard Newell and a brother4n-law, Thomas J. Watts, all of Oshawa. .
