the serviceman not to fill his
term of office."
Any intrusion by the depart-
ment of national defence into
recognized civilian positions, in
order that they may fit re-
dundant service people into
these jobs, is completely oppos-
ed by the association, he said.
"Because of the reduction of
certain phases of armed forces,
'it is being attempted in certain
areas to move these people into
jobs which were occupied by
former Civilian people," he
said. "If these jobs are filled
by service people, they are not
being filled as economically."
Mr. Wylie said that, since the
closing of stations was. an-
nounced, "we have lost upwards
of 1,600 position in our depart-
ment. However, the defence
departeient, working with the
National Employment Service,
has been able to abeerb a large
percentage of these employees
in their own skills or trades."
The association, he said, feels
that the government should
embark upon a training pro-
gran for those persons whole
skills are peculiar 'to the de-
fence department.
Mr, Wylie was' high in praise
for 'the commanding officer at
Clinton Station. He said that
Mr, Greenaway has worked
with civilian defence employ-
ees, both in Canada and United.
States, and understands their
situations.
The liaison at Clinton and
Centralia stations in Huron
County as well as at most de-
fence installations, is very good,
according to the national presi-
dent.
