tions and a different member

Dr. Kenneth Beaton, a Clinton
"Old Boy" in 1951. It was car-.
ried at that time over six radio.
stations. It has beep presented

A grant of $4,000 been
approved for the Maitland'
ley Conservation Authority by
the • Department of Lands And
Forests to 'purchase 229 acres
of land 'in Colborne Township,.
near Gocierich, Hon. A. Kelso
Roberts announced this week.
The tract, to be known as the'
Falls Reserve Conservation
Area, 'was negotiated for pur-
chase at the annual meeting
of the authority a month, ago.
The total cost was $8,000 and
half of the amount will be rais-
ed by levy among the member
municipalities.
Authority Chairman Robert
0, Wenger, Wingham, \krelcorna
ed Lands and Forests quick re-
sponse to the request for a
grant of 50 percent on the land
purchase. He said application
for a further grant would be
made when developinent of 'the
area gets underway.
0. M, Nickel, Lis towel, chair-
man of the , Conservation Areas
Advisory Board, said a plan for
development of the area would
be obtained before any work
is clone. His committee is
recommending provision be
made in the 1964 budget to
engage a professional planner.
Mr. Wenger agrees with the
Advisory Board chair man's sug-
gestion and said consequently
there would be no development
undertaken this year. "It is
doubtful if a plan of the area
will be completed before fall,"
lie said. "This will then have
to be studied by the Authority.
Development is likely to be
done by stage-8 over the next
few years",
Mr. Wenger said the Falls
Reserve represents the largest
conservation area undertaken
by either the. old Middle Mait-
land or the enlarged Maitland
Authorities. It is also likely
to be the first revenue produc-
ing area. "Therefore, we can
not carry out development
without a proper plan." '
Application will also be made
to Colborne Township to have
a road opened to the Property,
Mr. Wenger advised.
The Maitland River winds for
a mile through the property.
An old Indian camp site is loc-
ated on the land and archeolo-
gists have 'already carried out
