. Several members of the Clinton Girl Guides. and Brownies have already
purchased the new uniforms recently released from Headquarters. Patty
Strong, left, is wearing one of the new Guide uniforms, while Barbara Irwin ,
is still in the older fashion. .Gail Wager is clreSSed in a new Brownie unitDrm,
while Grace Strong, right, wears the older issue. The colours are still practical-
ly the same in the uniforms, but they are in two pieces, although designed to
appear as. only a one-piece dress. The GUide culotte, worn by Patty, is so well
cut that it is difficult to show that it is a divided skirt.' The ties have also
been changed, featuring maple leaves. All ties will now be standard in all

Thrifty Rippenettes
The eighth meeting of the
4-H Club was held April 11 at
the home of Mrs. Robert Bell.
The meeting opened with , the
4-H pledge, nine members an-
swering the roll call.
Ann Klein - Haar read the
minutes of the last meeting.
Achievement Day was then dis-
cussed and the, girls practised
judging for Achievement Day.
The record books have to be
in by May 1.

On Tuesday evening, last
week, ladies of the Madeleine
Lane Auxiliary of St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church met in the
Sunday School room of, the
church for their meeting.
Mrs. Art Cole read a portion
of scripture folio:wed by a short
poem pertaining to reading the
Bible entitled "How Readest
Thou?" Mrs. Robert J. Smith
then led in prayer.
The secretary read a letter
inviting the group to the anni-
versary meeting of the Wo-
men's Missionary Society in
May. Plans for catering to a
banquet were discussed. At the
conclusion of the meeting, a
demonstration of Stanley Pro-
ducts was given.
Hostesses for the lunch were
Mrs. Orland Johnston, Mrs.
Howard Cowan, Mrs. Gladys
Hoggarth and Mrs. Allan Gra-
ham.

Freeze evaporated milk in freez-
er tray until crystals form
around edge of tray. Halve and
pit drained cherries, reserving
juice. Heat juice to boiling
point; 'add jelly powder; stir
until dissolved. Stir in remain-
ing ingredients; cook slightly.
Stir all but 10 cherry halves
into jelly and chill until softly
see Fold stiff-whipped chilled
evaporated milk into gelatine
mixture. Spoon into sherbets,
garnish with remaining cherry
halves, chill until set (about 3
hours).

Junior Farmers
Learn Methods
Of Spraying
The Clinton Junior Farmers
and Junior Institute met on
April 15 with 24 present.

Chemical Ltd. spoke to the Jun.•
for Farmers in the Agriculture
Board Room on spraying, dem-
onstrating this by film.
The Junior Institute met at
the home of Beatrice Murch
where she and Janet Tyndall
demonstrated cake decorating,
which proved very interesting.
Following this the two groups
met for a joint meeting in the
board room. President, Donald
Young was in the chair. Mem-
bers paid their membership
dues for the corning year in
answer to the roll, call. Secre-
tary; Bruce Betties, read 'the
minutes of the last meeting.
Sharon Ball was nominated
to be leader for the Junior In-
stitute. A lunch committee
from each locality was set up.
Also, a recreation committee
consisting of Beryl Young, Toni
Duizer, John Rodgers and Ted
Bakaar was chosen.
The booth at the swine sale
at Clinton proved to be very
successful.
The Junior. Farmers, at this
meeting, accepted the responsi-
bility of canvassing parts of
Hullett and Goderieh townships
and the village of Auburn for
the Cancer Society. .
At the close of the Meeting
Janet Tyndall and Beatrice
Murch served a delicious lunch.
The monthly meeting of the
Ladles Auxiliary to the Cana-
dian Legion was held Monday
with the president, Mrs. Robert
Burke, presiding.
The next two months will be
exceptionally busy for the
auxiliary ladies, with a num-
ber of banquets scheduled,
bowling events in which the
ladies will be participating, and
the Zone Rally in Exeter oh
June 3.
The ladies Zone bowling
-tournament will be held in
Clinton on Saturday, May 16,
with 16 teams participating.
Three winners will be sent to
compete in the finals of the
Ontario bowling tournament at
Windsor, June 6.
Upon request from Mrs. Ken
McRae the 'auxiliary agreed to
take charge of the canvassing
of the town for the TB chest

A motion was passed to help
the Legion men financially with
the new office, recently added
above the cloak room at the
Legion hall.
A motion was also passed to
help with the cost of the Sat-
urday afternoon children's
shows till the end of June.
Mrs: McCann, Fordwich,
Zone Commander, :spoke for
several minutes at the end of
the meeting. She commended
'the ladies on their fine work
Three Hired,
Three Resign
From CHSS Staff
Three teachers were added
to the CHSS staff at the Wed-
nesday night meeting of the
board.
Gordon A. M. Smith, present-
ly on the teaching staff at
Mitchell High School will teach
English and Guidance, and Mrs.
Aileen Burgin, Alvinston„ will
teach home economics. She has
been on the staff at Watford
for the past year.
On the recommendation of
the advisory vocational corn-'
mittee, Gerald Leeson, Ain
prior, was hired to teach mach-
ine shop.
The board also accepted the
resignations of three members
of the present staff: Michael
Borov, Mrs. Beryl Harper and
Dieter Dahlke.

drews, vice-president and pre-
sented with a gift.

Hospital Worker
Correspondent Mrs. Bert Allan
T h e Aimwell unit of the
UCW met on Monday evening
with a good attendance. The,
president opened with devotion-
al readings and Mrs. Carmen
Moon favoured with a lovely
solo.
The president then conducted
a Biblical contest.
Mrs. Neville Forbes 'intro-
duced the guest speaker, Mrs.
Willis VanEgmond, who gave
a very interesting talk on her
work in occupational therapy,
in the Ontario Hospital at God-
erich, also showing articles
made by the patients. Mrs.
VanEgmond extended an invi-
tation to anyone wishing to
visit the hospital.
Mrs. Harry Lear, on behalf
of the audience, tendered a
sincere word of thanks to Mrs.
VanEgmond.

have been advised of the recent
sudden death of a relative in
Montreal. Friends in the neigh-
borhood join in their sorrow.
Peter Harrison of the SS Ag-
awe was last heard of when, the
vessel unloaded its cargo of
grain at Owen Sound, April 11
and left for the "Soo" the same
day 'light"; i.e. no cargo.
Mrs. Eleanor Picot :returned
to the home on the 5th con-
cession a few days ago.
Mrs. Fred Bell with Miss
Pearl Drew called at the Mac-.
Donald farm last Friday. Mrs.
Bell spent a recent weekend in
Detroit and her,daughter, Mrs.
Johnnie Simmoncls accompanied
her home for a brief stay. Mr.
Bell is regaining his vigor and
daily doing some outside work.
John Gliddon, out of the hos-
pital again, is at present stay-
ing in Holmesville with his bro-
ther, Dan and Mrs. Gliddon.
Miss. Sadie Sawtosky, Ot-
tawa, was a recent guest of
Mr. and Mrs. W. Sawcher.
The owners. of Sloancrest are
giving the estate a new look.
Many trees in the orchard have
been removed and the Glanville
interests of Walton are tilling
the soil.

The house was decorated in
pink and silver as were the
tables which had pink roses
and a wedding ,cagte in pink
and silver in the centre of the
head table.
Ted Foster was master of
ceremonies and Mrs. John Prie-
stap read the address when
many :beautiful gifts were re-
ceived, including silver tea ser-
vice, blankets, clOck, large wall
mirror and silver dishes,
Mrs. Vorstenbosch served a
bountiful turkey supper after
which cards were enjoyed by
all.
Guests were present from
Parry Sound, Toronto, Embro,
Stratford, London, Sebringville,
Mitchell, Kippen and Hensall.

The regular meeting of the
Huronview Auxiliary was 'held
in the Arts and Crafts room on
Monday, . April 20 with the
president, :Mrs. L. Forest in the
chair. Mrs. Mellis, the Occupa-
tional Theropist, reported on
many and diverse articles made
by the residents. The roll call
was answered by the payment
of fees. The anniversary tea in
June was discussed briefly.
The election of officers re-
sulted with the slate being re-
turned for another year. The
president, Mrs. Louis Forest,
RR 4 Clinton; secretary, Mrs.
Keith Webster, Blyth; corres-
ponding secretary and treasur-
er, Mrs. W. Bennetlf, RR 5 Clin-
ton; press secretary, Mrs. F. G.
Thompson. Crafts convener,
Mrs. Mellis, Hensall.
'The next meeting will be held
on May 19. The May birthday
party for the residents will be
given by the Bluevale Women's
Institute on Wednesday, May
20.
