Nieces and ,nephews of Mr. and Mrs. Allen entertained neighbours and friends to a re, ception in the Auburn Corn- muaity Memorial Hall on De- cember 23. The hall was beauti- fully decorated with a large golden 50 in the centre and colorful balloons, golden chand- eliers and a miniature lighted Christmas tree gave it a festal air for this occasion, The guests were received by Mrs. Williain J. Craig, sister of the bride of 50 years, and Har- old J. Allen, Goderich, brother of the groom. These two were the witnesses at the marriage in 1913. In.-charge-of the guest book were Miss Carolyn Craig, Ilder- ton; Miss Beverley Strasser, Sault Ste. Marie, and Master Terry Worsell, Goderich. Progressive euchre and crok- inole were enjoyed under the direotion of William S, Craig, Clinton and William J. Craig, Auburn. Prizes were presented' to ;the winners. A buffet 'luncheon was served 'by the .nieces and nephews, fol- lowed by wedding cake. Prior to this evening Mrs. James Craig and Mrs. We's Bradnock presented Mr, and Mrs. Allen with a purse , of money on behalf of neighbours and friends'. Pupils Display Varied Talents AUBURN—The pupils of SS No, 16, East Wawanosh and their teacher, Mrs. Beth Lan- sing, presented their annual Christmas concert to a large audience, of parents and friends. Mr. Oliver Anderson was chairman for 'the programme which consisted' of welcome Choruses by the school, chor- uses by the juniors and two- part choiktses by the seniors. Recitations by Neil Lock- hart, Marie Empey, Gilbert Nethery, Cindy Nethery, Jackie Nonkes, Paul Gross, Carol Gross, Barbara Empey, Dale Patterson, Dianne Popp, Doug- las Popp and Ken Empey. Piano instrumentals were played by Marian Youngblut and Marjorie Youngblut; a sel- ection was played by the rhy- thm band; solos were sung 'by Nancy Anderson, Charlotte Nesbit, Neil Lockhart and Mark Lockhart. Rev, and Mrs. Carson, Bervie, Carol Service Much Enjoyed At St. Mark's AUBURN—The annual carol service was held in St, Mark's Anglican Church with a large attendance from all the church- es in the village, Rev. Robert Meally was in charge of the service a n d Miss Carole Brown, presided at the organ. The church was beautifully decorated. with pointettia, light- ed tapers and baskets of Christ- mas 'flowers. Mr. Meally read the Christmas story as record- ed in the Gospel 'of St. Luke. A solo was sung by Mr. El- liott Lapp accompanied by Mrs, Norman Wightrnan from the United Church; Mr. Frank Raithby gave a musical read - Mg while Mrs. Robert J. Phil- lips played "Star of the East." Mr. Raithby pointed out the different meanings of the Star. This was the number from the Baptist 'Church. Mrs, Donald Haines, Miss Margaret Haines and Edward Haines sang, accompanied by Miss Margaret Sanderson, from the Presbyterian Church. The Junior Anglican choir sang the ,anthem, What Child Is This? Mr. Mealy gave an inspiring message and spoke of the great- est Gift 'the world has ever known. The offering was re- ceived by Thomas Haggitt and Robert Phillips, turned over to Stephen Haggitt, who present- ed it 'to Mr. Meally. This of- fering is given 'to the Canadian Bible Society and this along with the community canvass brings the Auburn and district donation to over 3270.00. During the programme, Mr. Anderson spoke briefly as did Mason Bailey, a member of the school board. Before 'the close of the pro- gramme, Mr. Nelson Patterson 'thanked the .pupils, the music supervisor, Mrs. Emmerson Rodger and the teacher for the fine programme.
