Retail Merchants To tarry- On As A 'Committee A second attempt to hold. a genera meeting of Clinton businessmen 'proved not much better than the first. Only a dozen persons showed up at the council chamber Monday even- ing. On Tuesday of last weeks there were fewer than that came out to a. meeting .called. by the Clinton Retail Merch- ants committee of which R, N. Irwin is chairman and R, Campbell, secretary. The small attendance at both meetings was very discouraging and disheartening to the "faith- ful few", according to .officials, • Despite the poor attendance, the committee decided -to carry on as an individual organiza- tion, but passed a motion to endorse any action which will be taken by Clinton arid Dist- riot Chamber of Commerce when Meets, The grohp decided to con- tinue promotion of business in the town. A committee composed of Harold Swan, grocer, chair- man; Eugene McAdam of Sut- ter-Perdue hardware; Art Col- lins, manager of Stedmans, and Art Aiken were appointed to contact businessmen regarding membership in the Clinton Re- tail Merchants Committee, Considering the poor attend- ance at the two evening meet- ings, the above committee will call on merchants some morn- ing soon to attend a mid-morn- ing coffee break get-together. 0 Mrs. Ed Glen, Clinton, and Mrs. Mary Elliott, Oakville, were guests at a family dinner held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Sully, Goderich, on Saturday evening.
