Mrs, Tom Allen, Karen and Beth Thompson, members of the Clinton Ladies R'i'fle Club, took part in the Thanksgiving Day target shoot at Monkton, Anniversary services will be held in Londesboro United Church on Sunday, October 20 at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Rev. William K -Carson, will occupy the pulpit. The ladies of Burn's UCW will hold a bazaar and tea on Wednesday, October 23 in the `:ommunity Hall, Londesboro, beginning at 2:30 p.m. All are welcome. An auction sale sponsored by the Stewards of Londesboro United Church will be held October 21 at 7:00 p.m, in the Community Hall. In case of rain it will be at the Township Garage. UCW Meets The Berean Unit of the UCW met at the home of Mrs. Lily Webster with a good attend- ance, The president conducted the devotional period and Mrs. George Wright gave the last chapter of the study book. Mrs. Pipe contributed a Thanksgiving reading and an auction basket was disposed of, bringing in a tidy sum. A light lunch was served at the close. as the new uniforms are avail- able. There will be a Brownie fly- ap on Monday at 6:30 p.m. and all are welcome to come out and see it. Twp., Community Club Recall Teen Tunes (By Mrs. Ira Merrill) The Obtober meeting of the' SS 4 Goderich Township Com- munity Club was held at the home of Mrs, Stewart Farqu- har. The president, Mrs. Mur- ray Forbes, presided and open- ' ed, the meeting with a poem, "Indian Summer, The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the sec- retary, Mrs. Lorne Tyndall, and the roll call was "your favour- ite song in your teens," and was responded to by 14 mem- bers and one visitor. Mrs. Donald Forbes read the treasurer's report, which show- ed a balance of $21.92. Corres- pondence and thank you cards were read. Final plans were made for the social evening to be held in the school and a reading en- titled "Mother Needs A Day' Off" was read by Mrs. Ira Mer- rill, Work was done on a quilt during the remainder of the afternoon. Lunch was served by the hos- tess, assisted by Mrs. Murray Forbes and Mrs. Ira Merrill. The November meeting will be held at the home' of Mrs. Ro- bert E. Thompson. 0 Classified Ads Bring Quick Results The Local Association to the Guides and Brownies held their first meeting of the' fall season at the Legion Hall, Wednesday to play their 1963-64 season, Mrs. B. Nicholson presided, and a special guest of honor was Mrs. Maynard Corrie, new District Commissioner. It was very discouraging to see so few mothers present to support the association. Mrs. Corrie spoke to the ladies and urged those present to invite ladies of the town to attend the meetings, wheth- er or not they have Guides or Brownies at present in these worthwhile activities. It is hoped to have the co-operation of all the mem- bers and non-members in this undertaking. Since new uniforms will soon be made available to Guides and Brownies, it was suggested that perhaps those mothers who have older styled uniforms would donate or sell them to the local association who in turn would loan them to Guides and Brownies until such times Staffa Child Loses Left Arm In Farm Mishap A five-year-old child, Brian Miller, RR 1, Staffa, is in good condition this morning in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, fol- lowing an accident a t his home Monday afternoon. The youngster got his left arm caught in the mechanism of an automatic farm loading wagon and before the loader could be stopped, the arm was amputated between the should- er and elbow. The child was taken to Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth, where he was attended by doc- tors, then to London. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Miller. W. G. The bride was given in. mar- riage by her father and chose Relatives Honour Clinton Couple On Anniversary An enjoyable evening was held on Saturday, October 12 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Merril), Clinton, when over 40 of the relatives met to honour them on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniver- sary. Among their many gifts were a chest of silver presented to them by the bride's family and a Sunbeam toaster from the groom's relatives. Next Friday evening a party will be held in Lpndesboro hall when friends and neighbours will honour them. 0 Goderich Twp. South Jack Stirling and son, Mark, Toronto, visited Mrs. James Stirling over the weekend. Mrs. Stirling is now at her home with Mrs. Reid Torrance in at- tendance at present. Felix LaPaine, Goderich, on a partridge hunt in MacDon- ald's bush woods, had a friend- ly visit with the owner and later called on Mr. Keith Mil- ler of the 7th concession. Mr. Miller is progressing nicely since his discharge from Vic- toria Hospital in London. Mrs. Robert McIlwain is a patient in Goderich hospital, where she has been undergoing minor surgery. Mr. Peter Harrison, of the grain carrier S.S. Agawa, had a brief visit at his home last week when the vessel docked at Goderich. Fraser Stirling has his reg- ular crew of apple pickers busy at harvesting the crop. Bill Blatchford and family of the Atwood area and the Bill Morrison family, London, spent Thanksgiving with relatives here. The men pitched in with hay stack removal at the new Townshend barn while the wiv- es pitched in with serving food to the crowd who gathered to help. Mrs. Blatchford and Mrs. Morrison are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Townshend. Mrs. Andrew Sloan, Sheffield, near Galt, recently called on her brother, John Torrance and her sister. Mrs. Stirling. Mr, Nelson Williamson, Am- berley, spent a few hours last Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.- Barnett Williamson, of the Cut Line.
