(The following article ap-
peared recently in the Brant-
ford Expositor and will be of
interest to Clinton residents, as
Rev. Inder was a former min-
ister of St. Paul's Anglican
Church and an active member
of the Clinton Horticultural
Society.)
Seventeen years ago Rev.
Charles S. Inder found he had
"a little" painting talent.
Through long winter nights
he laboriously manipulated his
`011 paints "onto many a can-
vas" before he mastered a
painting technique.
Now, after hundreds of hours,
Mr. Inder can look at the 40
or so paintings in his Cayuga
Street home and admit "I've
had a lot of fun painting them".
Monday, Mr. Inder--minister '
Of Holy Trinity Anglican
ber, Unit 1 will have the de-
votions; Unit 2 ,the lunch; and
Unit 4, the program.
At the conclusion of the
meeting Unit 3 served lunch.
Church — opened a two-week-
long one-man painting exhibi-
tion in 13rantford Public Lib-
rary.
He by no means pretends his
canvases are masterpieces, but
thinks they might appeal to
some people.
Mr, Inder is not a prolific
painter—his ministerial duties
do not permit the time: "Some-
times I go two months without
painting a ,thing, then wham,
I paint three or four pictures
one after the other," he cheer-
fully confesses,
Most of Mr. Inder's paintings
feature people and places. He
admits he doesn't particularly
care for abstract paintings,
though he ,has one or two in
his collection, "just to show I
Can do it".
Ideas for his paintings are
accummulated during the sum-
mer months. Wherever Mr. In-
der goes, he is armed with pen-
cil and paper,
Sketches and drawings made
briefly during the summer
months are carefully worked
into paintings during the win-
ter.
In his -early painting days at
his Clinton ministry—Mr. Inder
made a habit of giving away
one of his paintings to every
bride he married.
Twenty of his pictures were
given away as altar presents,
until he reluctantly had to give
up.
"After a while, weddings
from the nearby RCAF station
came so thick and fast I just
couldn't keep up the supply.
I had to drop the idea. A great
pity really."
Despite the acclaim his work
has already received, Mr. Inder
shrugs it off with a modest self-
description.
"I'm just a guy who likes to
paint."
