Janis Galbraith took home the senior girls' honours with two firsts and two seconds, while Judy Collins was the top intermediate girl with three firsts and two thirds. The young track stars turned in some creditable performanc- es in the competition, The field events were staged at the pub- lic school grounds on Monday, with the " kids moving to the Community Park for Tuesday's track events. Ron McKay was in charge of the proceedings, aided by sev- eral other members of the staff. At the conclusion of the event, a girls open race over a distance of 440. yards and a boys' 880-yard event were stag- ed and drew close to 50 en- trants each. While some of the youngsters started out in high gear, few of them managed to cross the fin- ish line without stopping at least once to catch a much needed breath. There were so many contest- ants in some of the events that it was necessary to run them off in two and three heats, with the winners meeting in a final. Over 60 competed in some of the junior division competitions. The local winners will now stage their annual inter-school competition with the track champs from the Air Vice- Marshall Hugh Campbell school at RCAF Clinton. It was Clinton's first loss of the season. A crowd of over 40Q was on hand to watch, but the locals gave them little to clie-er ab- out as they fell, victim to the strong right arm of John Clyne. tier on, the Ajax mound. However, it is expected that a large contingent of support- ers from Clinton will find it to be on hand to boost the kids. ious trouble, setting the home team down in order in four of the nine innings and pitch- ing to only four in three of the remaining five. Ajax wasted little time in jumping into a lead as they picked up their first tally in the first inning and never look- ed back. After getting the first man to fly out, starter Clare Magee gave up consecutive singles to Homunik and Cookson to ac- count for their 1-0 lead. Magee got the first man to pop out in the second inning, as well, but again watched a run score on consecutive hits as Clyotier aided his own cause by following Godfrey's single with a booming triple lins, Beverly Cudmore, Bette Hunter; high jump — Bette Hunter, Linda Nip, Judy Col- lins; hop, step, jump—Wendy Gates, Bette Hunter, Judy Col- lins; 50-yard dash—Jud yCol- lins, Grace VanLoo, Bette Hunter; 100-yard dash—Grace -VanLoo, Wendy Gates arid Wendy Holmes (T). The visitors used the same procedure in the third frame to score two runs, as Magee got the first Man to fly put, but again allowed consecutive bits. Cookson drove one pitch into deep left, and came romping home on Peterson's single. The latter moved to second on a ground out, but came home when, first baseman Laurie Colquhoun heaved the ball into the outfield when he attempt- ed tp catch Peterson off sec- ond after making the out at first, Ajax added their fifth run in the fourth inning when Cr- umb toured the sacks a f ter hitting a single, stealing sec- ond and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt. The run was unearned however, as John Cooper missed touching second on an attempted double play that did get the man at first. The score was upped to 7-0 in the next frame when Cook- son gained life at first when Bob Batkin pulled Colquhoun off the bag with his throw after making a nice stab of a liner along the third base line. Peterson followed this up with a triple to centre and he came home on a single by Wil- liams. Their final tally came in the top of the ninth with Godfrey leading off with a single, steal- ing second and coming home on a single by Cookson after two men were out. Hensall Golfer Tops At Bayfield' Thirty-five members of the Bayfield - Clinton Golf Course competed in the annual men's tournament staged at the club on Sunday and top honours in the low gross department fell to Don Joynt, Hensall. However, he had to play an extra hole before copping the honours as he was tied in the regulation 18 holes by a mem- ber from Goderich, Tick Mero. Finishing third w a s Ralph Schefter, Clinton, who last week ended up. with the low score in the Chilton Legion tournament at Grand Bend. Schefter potted an 82 aver the nine-hole layout at Bay- field. Veteran Fred Elliott, Clinton came home with an 83 and was tied by two other Clinton entrants, Murray Draper and Brian. Lavis. In the low net division, Gib Lee finished first with Brent Wilson in second spot, follow- ed in order by Joe Henderson, Wave Nelson and Carman Rowcliffe. Following the tournament, Mrs. Fred Hulls and her staff served a very delicious lunch, which more than made up for the disappointment some golf- ers had on the course. Ajax picked up 11. hits off Magee, three of them being triples. lie gave up four walks and struck put only one. No Offensive Clinton could do little with the offerings of Clyotier as Larry Pickett picked up two of the singles and C h a r 11 e Switzer hod the other. Ironic- ally, the two are the last two men in the Clintert batting order. Both players managed to get as far as third, base, but died there when, their mates failed to hit in the clutch. Clyotier allowed only three other men to get as far as sec- ond. Ooko Clint(M Winner Only Clinton "winner" was a little black mongrel t h a t raced onto the field in the sixth inning and managed to hold up the game for several minutes while he eluded the arms and boots of the Ajax right fielder. Most of the young boys at the game eagerly joined in the attempt to get the playful pup off the field 'and be finally tired of the game and left for home.
