Water Safety Demonstrations
Each year throughout the 'RC AF hundreds of children learn to swim and
practice safe water habits: Ever alert to this need for water . safety, the
recreation staff of RCAF Clinton recently held a water safety demonstration
to impress this on the minds of serving personnel and their dependents. In
the top photo, John Farrell holds the canoe while Len O'Connor (Sunday
Sam) holding Lynn Rees shows how NOT to get into a canoe. In the bottom
photo, Muriel Wilson, Anita Wilson and Steven MacKay demonstrate to Diane
Simmonds, their instructor, how their body reacts in water. (RCAF Photos)

Soil Association
Plans 4-II Club
For Winter Wheat
The Huron County Soil and
Crop Improvement Association
announced this week it would
sponsor a 4-H Talbot Winter
Wheat Club for interested
youths in the South Huron dis-
trict.
Due to the fact seed supplies
are limited, and because the
group expects that many will
be interested in growing Tal-
bot, the club will be limited to
the first 20 young people of
4-H age, making application to
the agricultural office at Clin-
ton.
The project will consist of
planting one acre of the promis-
ing new strong strawed, high
yielding, smut resistant Talbot
winter wheat.
Regular meetings will be
held to give instruction on man-
agement and records will be
kept on cost of production.
The organizational meeting
will be held at 8:30 p.m. on
Tuesday, September 3 at the
Clinton agricultural office and
arrangements will be made to
distribute seed at that time.

Dancing Every Saturday Night
For the Young Crowd
Del Philp, Phm.B., chairman
of the Advisory Vocational
Committee, reported to the
CHSS board, Wednesday, that
his committee have tentatively
set Friday, November 1 as the
date for the official opening of
the new addition.
One of the board members
to express disappointment over
the lack of construction pro-
gress at the school, he quickly
added, "1963", 'and brought
some laughter from the board
members.
Norm Counter, Clinton, said
he felt the board should wait
until the school is completely
finished and in good shape be-
fore an opening was held.
However, it was explained
that a later date would inter-
fere with the school's com-
mencement exercises.
While the school's final com-
pletion was obviously one of
the worries in regard to the
opening, it isn't expected to
create as many problems as the
question of who should be in-
vited to the opening.
Philip explained there was a
seating capacity for only 600
people and said it was the feel-
ing -of the AVC that each of
the four schools receive an
equal share of 150 tickets each.
He reported plans called for
two open houses to be held fol-
lowing the opening for the gen-
eral public to view the new
facilities.
CHSS board chairman, John
Levis, said he felt the invita-
tions to the opening should be
alloted on a basis in compari-
son to the pupil attendance at
the school.
When the board members
started to name some of the
people and groups who should
be invited, they quickly realiz-
ed that their 150 invitations
would be quickly used up.
However, no definite plans
were made, awaiting further
decisions by Gerry Ginn, RR 2,
Clinton, who has been appoint-
ed Chairman of this 'commit-
tee by the AVC.
One of the other problems
brought up was the fact that
with the election coming up,
any government official invit-
ed may not be-in power at, that
time.
One of the names suggested
as guest speaker for the cere-
monies was Han. William Dav-
in, minister of federation.
One board member, obviously
a Conservative backer, assured
the board there would be no
problems in inviting a present
government official as there
would be no change made by
the Ontario electorate.
One additional worry over
the opening—the date is the
day after the annual soaping
of windows campaign on Hal-
lowe'en night!
