At Anniversaty
HAYFIELD—The 61st anni-
versary of .the building of St.
Andrew's Chtireh was marked
on Sunday last stiecial ser-
vices.
Rev. Grant Mills of Ontario
Street United Chilreh, Clinton,
was the guest speaker. Floyd
McAsh, ARCT, Hamilton, pre-
sided at the organ, with a choir
of 18 voices leading the service
of praise and two anthems, "0
Worship the King" and "Tbe
Shepherd Psalm". The solo
part was taken by Mrs. A. G.
Pease.
Mr. Mills chose as his morn-
ing theme, the Birth of the
Soul, basing his remarks on
Ecclesiastes, chapter 3.
The preacher pointed out that
the writer of Ecclesiastes put
all the responsibility on God
for everything that occurred
whereas he claimed that many
things are not arbitrary acts
of God, but are man's own re-
sponsibility; for instance the
birth and growth of his soul
is not a physical act but a spir-
itual exercise—the growth and
development of the soul being
nourished by man's own choice
and design.
The evening service was con-
ducted by the minister, Rev, A.
G. Pease. Mr. Mills took for
the subject of this sermon,
"Working Together in the
Church", his point being that
a congregation only 'proves its
Christianity , by its life and
works.
The anthem "I Surrender
All" and a duet "Constantly
Abiding" by Mr. and Mrs. Har-
ris were much appreciated,
Baskets of beautiful gladioli
and zinnias added much to the
occasion.
