Terry MacDonald: It was terrific! I had a real "ball" bugging the leaders; and, as young Jim Jewson said one Friday afternoon: I can't wait to go back on Monday. It's just like school. A hearty thank-you is de- served by the swimming pool staff, the Fish and Game mem- bers, Denise Smith,, Dianne ground as the familiar peace pipe was given to both the red men and the white men as a sign of peace and friendship. Interspersed in their colour- ful program were these songs: We are the Red-Men, Home on the Range and Fire's Burning. The Fish and Game Playground contributed a short play entitled "Pokey Hunters", this being a take-off on the historical tale of C6.ptain Sohn Smith's love for Pocahontas 'and the adversity of her father, the chief Powhatan. The group followed this amusing skit by the singing of one of their favourite songs— Little Red Caboose. Refreshments consisting of freshie for the youngsters and ginger-ale for the adults fol- lowed the entertainment pro- gram, winding Up 'a most.spark- ling and successful day. But is this a biased opinion? Here are a few comments from the children concerning their reaction to the trial year of the playgrounds: Glen Young: It was great!! Patti Kay: I liked it a lot. Wendy Shaer: I thought it was a lot of fun. Brian Burke: I think it was William N. Watson William Norman Watson, a life-long resident of Blyth, pas- sed away at Victoria Hospital, London, August 7 after• a long illness. Mr. Watson was the young- est son of Edmondson and Eli-_swell!! (By—Karen Schefter) Ejaculated Indian war- whoops, gun shots, laughter and gaiety filled the main street of Clinton, Friday, August 2,- as the three playgrounds united to form a gala parade as their summer windup. The procession, of approxi- mately 87 children, was led by four pretty Majorettes. Follow- itig these misses were: old-time covered wagons, children dress- ed as frontier women—donning ankle-length dresses, poke bon- nets and massive shawls; war- streaked Indians complete with boWs, arrows and tomahawks; and, of course, rootin', shaotin' cowboys. Having marched from the LegiOn to the Community Park, parents, visitors and the chil- dren arranged in a semi-circle, were 103 in an enjoyable sing- • song. A council-ring ceremony was revived by the Pinecrest Play- zabeth Fitzsimmons Watson. Early in his life he' became en- gaged in the drover business with his father, and brother John B. He was active in church or- ganizations, in the Blyth Agri- cultural Society, a charter member of the Lions Club, and a past chairman of the Union Cemetery Board. His first marriage was to Frances Mason who passed away October 1918. He later married Annie Elizabeth Mc- Manus of Goderich, who, died in September 1955. Surviving are one son, Paul and two daughters, Mrs. W. J. (Cleta) Lyons, Toronto and Anne Jeannette, at home; one brother, John B., Blyth and four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Pot- ter and Miss Alice Watson, Blyth; Mrs. E. Mattie Lane, Calgary; Mrs. Florence West, London. A private funeral service was held at the Tasker memorial chapel, Blyth, on Friday after- noon, conducted by Rev. Robert F. Meally, rector of Trinity Church, Blyth. The pallbearers were Jack A. Watson, London; Edward Wat- son arid` George Nesbitt, Blyth; Jas. McPhee, Peter Sturdy' and Johni Sturdy, Goderich.
