Messengers Meet
The Messengers of Bruce-
field 'United Church met on
Sunday morning at 10:30 under
the leadership of Mrs. R. Han-
cock and Mrs. Edgar Allan.
After the call to worship, the
children stood and repeated the
members' purpose in unison.
The offering was received and
dedicated and the secretary,
Lawrence Elliott, read the min-
utes of the last meeting.
The children were reminded
to bring the flat stones to the
August meeting.
Mrs. Allan told the story
from the study book ,"Sun Hee
and the Street Boy" on school,
telling what a Korean school is
like.
In a discussion on gifts they
considered not only material
gifts ,but the God-given ones,
such as a merry heart and a
smiling face, and how they in-
fluence others.
The meeting closed with
prayer.

you land flat on your face.
A camp is a very friendly
place. When we arrived on
Saturday, there was no welcom-
ing committee in sight, but as
we wandered into the dining
hall, the cook came through
from the kitchen at the same
Moment.
She looked us square in the
1
eye and said, "who are you?"
"Next week's counsellors."
"Well, there's no room for
you here. The camp's full,"
But of course there was
room. Who ever heard of Joe
Snider being tumble to solve
a problem! (By the way, that
cook turned out the best meals
we've eaten in many a day.)
We slept on the floor of an
unfinished residence that night.
It turned out to be a great
leveller for us counsellors. Just
try looking down your nose at
someone when you're lying on
the floor!
There is much to be said for
sleeping in a cabin with 14
nine and ten year olds. The
most of it is better left unsaid.
We can hazily remember
reading somewhere that a dog's
ear is sensitive to certain vib-
rations that a human ear does
not pick up.
Well a counsellor's ear should
be made insensitive to the vib-
rations of 'squealing and
screaming at high G.
But it should be very sensi-
tive to the sound of the low
crying of homesickness, or the
"splat" on the floor of someone
forcibly ejecting food from her
stomach.
We have often said, "we're
all fagged out!"
We never really thought of
the meaning of the root word
"fag". We found out at camp!
There is nothing hit and miss
about a camp program. From
the first command "Rise and
shine" (we never did get the
second part of that command
carried out) to "lights out",
each camper is carrying out
some definite and worthwhile
activity.
You didn't work nearly as
hard picking beans,
We are somewhat addicted to
walking in the night. Not in
ottr sleep, mind you. No sir,
we have been very thoroughly
awakened. Of course at home
we don't walk outside!

But we are glad we did at
camp.
It was one of the worthwhile
experiences. T h e quietness,
beauty and majesty of nature
are never more evident than
in the middle of the bight.
We thought of the hymn
which begins:
"Hast thou not known, hast
thou not heard
That firm remains on high
The everlasting throne of
Him
Who formed the earth and
sky?"
The evening services held on
Vesper Point were also most
inspiring. Every camper must
surely have begun to have an
appreciation of the wonderful
works of God, the Creator.
Well son, the woman was
right. "You haven't lived until
you've been to camp,"
We realize now that it was
your inability to attend that
blighted your life and left you
as you are.
Please accept our sincerest
apology for our lack of respon-
sibility in the matter.
Sincerely,
Mother.
