Wins Stew Cook Memorial Cup
A young Port Elgin vacationer, Murray Hac-
kett, won the second. annual Junior Golf Tourna-
ment a,t the Bayfield-Clinton course last Tuesday,
and was presented with the Stew Cook Memorial
Cup by Clinton Public School Principal, Bert Gray,
who is captain of the club. The youthful golfer shot
a 88 for the 18-hole competition.

The win gave the locals their
eighth win of the season as

high gear in the tilt, scoring
three runs in the bottom of the
first frame when Bob Liver-
more, Bob McDonald and Bill
Craig all toured the base paths.
However,, Lucknow bounced
back to knot the count in their

Lucknow threatened in the
last inning when McDonagh
picked up a hit off Motamura,
but he was left stranded on
second base by his mates.
Motamura had complete con-
trol of the game and set the
visitors down in order in six
of the nine innings.
Other weekend games were
rained out for the Clinton crew,
but they have re - scheduled
some for this weekend and play
three games in three nights,
On Thursday (tonight) they
host Belgrave while Seaforth
comes over for a game on Fri-
day. The locals travel to
Whitechurch on Saturday. 0
Bayfield Lions
Annual Frolic
Next Wednesday
Bayfield. Lions Club annual
summer frolic is always held
at the height of the holiday
season. This year it is schedul-
ed for Wednesday evening,
July 31.
Events include a ball game
at 6.30; a huge parade, leaving
Bayfield post office at 7.45;
band concert at 8 by Clinton
Community Concert Band; then
a ful evening of carnival
games and bingo for the
grown-ups, and all sorts of
games and fun for the kids.
The highlight of the event is
a draw at 11 p.m. for 12 merch-
andise prizes valued at over
$250.00.
This year there is $50.00 in
prizes for the various entries
in the parade; all walking and
bicycle entries are requested to
assemble at Hovey's store at
7.30. A feature of the parade
and entertainment later at the
agricultural grounds is a rid-
ing horse group from Goderich,
portraying "Robin Hood and
His Merry Men". The Lions'
"chuck wagon" and other ve-
hicles are entered in the par-
ade.
The 25-cent admission for
adults (children free) entitles
fliolic patrons to a chance on
three gate prizes.
Russell Kerr, the incoming
president, has arranged for a
good time for all at the frolic,
in his first official duty as head
of the club for 1963-64.

annual Junior Golf Tourna-
ment,
When the scores: were tab-
ulated, a young Port Elgin
duffer, Murray Hackett, was
declared winner and presented
with the Cook Memorial
Trophy,
This trophy was presented
to the .Club in memory of the
late Stewart Cook by a .number
of his friends who holiday at
Bayfield.
Last year, his son, Donald,
was the first winner of the
trophy .and was runnernp, this
year.
Hackett shot an 88 over 18
holes, while the young Cook
came in with 96, Ross cam-
eron had a 99, while Mark
Stephens finished fourth with
a 104.
and Mrs. Fred Hulls,
owners of the 13ayfield-Clinton
Course, proyed to be genial and
generous hosts. The prizes, eon,
sisti:ng of golf balls, were do-
nated by Mr. Hulls, while his
wife provided the boys with 'a
most tasty luncheon after they
had finished their games,

army crew when he ended up
