"But don't misunderstand
me," he added, "we are still
concerned with nuclear war and
fallout." ,
The threat. is always there,
he added, but agreed that
people were less concerned than
what they had been during the
Cuban crisis.
Asked if he was recommend-
ing the erection of fallout shel-
ters, he answered, "we recom-
mend them very highly".
He explained they were still
the best form of safety in the
event of nuclear fallout.
Mr. Forbes, who explained he
still didn't know how many'
persons in the county had fall-
out shelters, said he knew of
at least two or three.
However,. he added that
many people had their base-
ments arranged in such a man-
ner to afford protection in case
of nuclear war.
Since moving to Goderich, he
said he has made partial ar-
rangements to equip his base- •
ment for a fallout shelter and
replied, "I think so," when ask-
ed if he planned to erect a
complete fallout shelter.
He explained that building
a shelter was "a personal
thing" and depended upon the
individual as it was strictly on
a voluntary basis for any per-
son who wished to erect this
type of protection.
Commenting on previous
EMO work in Huron, he said it
appeared as though not too
much interest' had been shown
frorn any part, •
He did not outline any plans
he will submit to the county
EMO committee, but stated
they would be made known
when approyal was received.
