gold candles and centred with
a yellow rose centrepiece. As-
sisting in pouring tea were the
Misses Maude and Josephine
Stirling, Hayfield and Mrs. Lot-
tie Davies, Hespeler. Mrs, Fred
Fraser, Hayfield, assisted in
preparing the dainty tea lunch-
eon,
Guests were present at the
anniversary gathering from
London, Mitchell, Science Hill,
Seaforth, Exeter, Clinton, and
Hayfield.
A surprise dinner party was
held in the Hotel Clinton din-
ing room, Saturday night, for
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sturg-
eon, Hayfield. The occasion was
in honour of their 50th wedd-
ing anniversary o n Tuesday,
June 25, and was arranged and
attended by the immediate
family.
On entering the hotel Mrs.
Sturgeon was presented with a
yellow carnation corsage and
Mr. Sturgeon, a yellow carn-
ation, Members of the family
each wore yellow carnations.
Mr. Sturgeon is a son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. James Sturg-
eon, Hayfield and Mrs. Sturg-
eon was the former Maude
Merrier, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Merner,
Alvinston.
They were married at the
bride's home at Alvinston.
Until recently Mr. Sturgeon
was a commercial fisherman
out of Hayfield, Both are mem-
bers of St. Andrew's United
Church, Hayfield.
The family preSented their
parents with a two-tone beige
kitchenette suite with bronze
trim.
Members of the family are:
three daughters, Mrs. Dennis

Francis (Jeanne) Anderson, Sc-
ience Hill and Mrs. A. (Eva)
Kerchner, London; two sons,
Stuart, at Hespelar and Gerald
at Preston, A son and daughter
died some years ago.
Son Stuart proposed the
toast to the parents.
The honoured couple have
eight grandchildren and three
great grandchildren.'
The hotel dining room table
was centred with a three-
tiered anniversary cake made
by Mrs. Stuart Sturgeon, Hesp-
eler.
The dinner was a dual af-
fair as Mr. and Mrs. Anderson
were celebrating their 14th
wedding anniversary, also on
June 25th.
Eleven-year-old Bruce Inglis,
of Hespeler, provided the ent-
ertainment, which was the
highlight of the evening, as he
played several selections on the
bagpipes. The family also ent-
ertained their parents for the
remainder of the evening.
During the evening congrat-
ulatory messages were read
from the -Hon. Lester B. Pear-
son, Prime Minister of Canada;
Hon. John G. Diefenbaker;
Hon., J. Waldo Monteith, MP,
Perth; and L. Elston Cardiff,
MP, Huron.
On Sunday, open house was
held at the Sturgeon home in
Hayfield when friends, neigh-
bours and relatives called to
offer best wishes. Mrs. His-
back received the guests.

ional picnic to be held in Sea-
forth on July 10 with July 24
as an alternative date in case

it was very fitting that a gold
cross was one of the gifts that
had been placed on the altar, the centre' ,of worship,
lie told the history of the
cross down .through the ages
And urged all the parishioners
to never drop their cross of
cliscipleship. During the ser-

loving memory of her parents,

At the morning service the
rector, Rev, Robert Meally of-
ficiated for this special ser-
vice and the church organist,
Miss Carole Brown was in
charge of the musical portion
of the service. The anthems,
"This Festal Day" and "Bright.
the Day When First They
Gathered," were both composed
by Mrs. Gordon R. Taylor as
also her solo which she sang
at the evening service.
A. duet was sung by Mrs.
John Deer and Mrs. Andrew
Kirkeonnell at the morning
service.
The beautiful bouquets of
flowers were placed in the
church by. members of the
Sturdy family in memory of
their forefathers, early memb-
ers of St. Mark's. Baskets were
also given by Mr. and Mrs.
Robert J. Phillips, Mrs. Char-
les Asquith and Miss Carol
Clark.
In his rededication service,
Rev. R. Meally reveiwed the life
of the church in Auburn and
likened it into the dedication
service in Solomon's temple
many years ago.
