gest and most impressive
events in Guiding took place in
Trinity Anglican Church, Bay-
field last Friday evening.
Six Brownies of the Bayfield
Pack flew up to the First Bay-
field Guide Company. They
were Lynn Brandon, Martha
Corrie, Sharron Heard, Vicky
Gallant, Delores Telford and
Monica Gemeinhardt.
Each Brownie bowed out of
the pack by entwining through
the fairy-ring 'of Brownies, and
bid farewell to their lead-
ers: Brown Owl, Mrs. Ken
Brandon and Tawny Owl, Mrs.
John Lindsay. Each then asked
permission to join the Guide
company, and were introduced
to Guide Captain, Mrs. Robert
MacVean by a guide. The Cap-
tain and Lieutenant, Mrs,
Mhynard Corrie welcomed each
into the company.
Previous to the fly-up cere-
mony and after the 14 guides
had formed their horseshoe and
the 15 Brownies formed their
fairy-ring, Mrs. Ken. Brandon
welcomed the hailful of parents
and friends to the event, Three
Tweenies sat inside the Brown-
ie fairy-ring.
Mrs. Brandon and Mrs. Lind-
say presented first-year service
stars to: Sharon Brandon, Pat-
ricia Payne, Mary McFadden,
Mary Lou Castle, Sandra Tel-
ford' and Louise MacVean, and
to Da'yle Scotchmer (absent);
second year stars to, Brenda
Makins and Pauline Merner,
and third year stars to the six
Brownies who flew up to Guides.
The following proficiency
badges were presented: toy-
maker badge, Colleen Merner,
Delore's Telford, Sharron
Heard, Martha Corrie ,Monica,
Gemeinhardt and Lynn Bran
Mrg. Barry Turner, all of St-
rathroy, spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tur-
ner and Lynn.
Mr. and Mrs. George Hag-
gitt were guests last Saturday
at the McDougall-Castle wed-
ding at Clinton.

manager at the Auburn and
Dungannon branches of the
Canadian Imperial Bank of
Commerce.
Final arrangements have been
completed for the annual daily
Vacation Bible school to be held
this year starting on July 8.

Mr. Craig Peters and Mrs.
Lloyd Walden; juniors, Mrs.
Lloyd Humphreys and Rev.
Robert Meally; primary, Mrs.
Carman Gross; kindergarten,
Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson.
Congratulations are extend-
ed to the relay team of USS 5.
Hullett (Auburn) school who
won first place at the annual
Hullett Township Field Day
held last Friday at Londesboro.
The team consisted of Rouley
Lubber, Ronnie Brown, Karl
Tiechert and Steven Haggitt.
Other winners of this school
were Gail Miller, Robert Wit-
kin, Douglas McIntyre a n d
John MacKay.
Dr. B. Hall of the new On-
tario Hospital at Goderich will
be the guest speaker at the Au-
burn Women s Institute next
Tuesday, June 18 in the Com-
munity Memorial Hall. This has
been arranged by the convener
of health, Mrs. Kenneth Scott,
Reg.N. The roll call is to be
answered by "What I do when
I do as I please'„ and the motto
for the day is, Domestic peace
cannot be.-perserved in jars.
The hostesses will be Mrs. Wor-
thy Young and Mrs. Robert
Turner.
Reir. and Mrs. Charles Lewis
and daughter Cathy, are on
holidays for the next two
weeks. Next Sunday, joint ser-
vice will be held at Donnybrook
at 11. am. with Rev. C. Cox of
Teeswater being the guest
speaker. On Sunday, June 23,
a joint service will be held at
Westfield at 2 p.m. with Rev.
A. Higginbotham, Walton, be-
ing the guest speaker. There
will be no Sunday School at
Knox United Church on either
Sundays,

Mrs. Stewart Taylor and her
daughter, Miss Nancy Taylor,
accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Or-
val McPhee when they were
guests at the Nurses' Gradua-
tion ceremony at the Kitchener-
Waterloo Hospital last week-
end. Mrs. Taylor's a n d Mr.
McPhee's cousin, Miss Marilyn
Smith, Goderich, was one of
the nurses graduating.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mc-
Clinchey left last weekend for
a trop to the West Coast.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph D. Mun-
ro were guests last Saturday
at the McDougall-Castle wed-
ding at Clinton at St. And-
rew's Presbyterian Church.
Mr and Mrs. Gordon Cham-
ney and family moved on Mon-
day to their farm home on the
Auburn-Blyth road. Mr. Percy
Walden and his niece, Miss
Viola Thompson also moved to
the village to their newly pur-
chased home.
Mrs. George Hamilton is
visiting this week in Sarnia
with her grandson, Mr. Garth
Hamilton, Mrs. Hamilton and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Raithby,
London, were recent visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon R.

BAYFIELD-After initiating
six Brownies into her First
Bayfield Guide Company last
Friday in Trinity Anglican
Church hall, Mrs. Robert Mac-
Vean was honored by the Local
Association and her Guide
Company. Mrs. MacVean is
retiring from guiding after
four years as Lieutenant and
three years as Captain. (See
picture above).
Eider daughter of Mrs.
James A. Cameron, Bayfield,
and the late Ross Forrester,
Clinton, Mrs. MacVean came to
Bayfield in April, 1951.
In 1956 she took on the task
of acting Lieutenant, with Mrs.
Grant Turner as acting Cap-
tain. Neither one had any
previous guide training. They
were coached in their duties by
the late Division Commissioner,
Miss Una Macdonald, Goderich,
and- the present commissioner,
Miss Mary McMillen, also of
Goderich, who were at that
time captain and lieutenant of
the First Goderich Girl Guide
Company.
At Christmas, 1960, , Mrs:,
Turner resigned and Mrs. Mac-
Vean stepped up to captain and
Mrs. Maynard Corrie was made
lieutenant.
Now Mrs. Corrie will become
captain of the First Bayfield
Guide Company.
addressed the full audience on
the theme "Looking Up."
He congratulated the Brown-
ies and Guides and specially
thanked the various leaders,
saying "Without whom none of
this evening's activities would
have• been possible."
Linda Pierson recited a Guide
poem and Janice Merner thank-
ed the Local Association for its
guidance during the year.
The Local Association for
Guides and Brownies in Bay-
field served appropriate re-
freshments to everyone present.

Bayfield Guiders Honor Retiring Captain
Mrs. Robert (Barbara) MacVean, centre, Captain of the First Bayfield
Guide Company, was presented with two gifts Friday night at a Brownie fly-up
ceremony in Trinity Anglican Church, Bayfield. Mrs. MacVean is retiring after
seven years as Lieutenant, then Captain of the company. At the left is Mrs,
Wilfred Castle, president of Bayfield Local Association for Guides and Brown-
ies, presenting the association's gift of a hammered aluminum tray. On the

Mrs, Robert MacVean, Guide
Captain, was in charge of the
official reception, for the six
new guides. The theme of the
setting was "spring" originated
by Lieutenant,•Mrs. Corrie. The
setting was a white picket
fence and spring flowers.
The captain introduced Shir-
ley Pierson, a guide graduate
who is the Bayfield company's
only Cadet. Miss Pierson as-
sisted Lieutenant Mrs. Corrie
in presenting second class bad-
ges„to. Guides Norma Scanlon,
Nancy Heard, Cathie Weston
and Penny Howlett.
Mary Elizabeth Ervine and
Linda Scotchmer received their
first class badges.
Child care badges were pre-
sented to Cheryl Johnston,
Linda Pierson, Janice Merner,
Linda Gemeinhardt, Linda
Scotchmer and Mary Elizabeth
Ervine; and Gayle Turner who
was absent.
Captain MacVean reported
that three guides were now
studying and going through
tests for their all-round cords.
Program
Mrs. John Lindsay, Tawny
Owl, was chairman for the
program. The Brownies and
Guides repeated their promises,
followed by a play put on by
.the six graduating Brownies. A
Guide "Camel Song" and a
Brownie "Light Song" were
sung.
