In Exeter Hotel
British Mortgage & Trust
Company, founded in 1877, is
opening a ninth branch in
Exeter, Ontario. The office will
be located in temporary quar-
ters in the old Central Hotel,
a building that has been stand-
ing since before British Mort-
gage was chartered over 85
years ago,
Central Hotel, the last of
Exeter's seven hotels,. was built
between 1865 and 1870 by Mr.
John McDonell, son of the first
Attorney General of Upper
Canada.
The. hotel changed hands
numerous times over theyears,
though in 1888 it was sold to
Mr. W. T. Atcheson and again
in 1946 was returned to the
Atcheson family from whom
British Mortgage recently made
the purchase.
The new British Mortgage
Branch in Exeter - opening
Friday; June' 14 - will offer
a wide range of trust and fin-
ancial services to the people,
companies and organizations in
the Exeter area.
Special gifts will be given to
depositors and investors to
mark the opening of the new
branch. Each depositor open-
ing a Savings Account of $25
or more will receive a beauti-
ful clear Lucite silver dollar
paperweight. Each investor in
a Guaranteed Certificate will

Mr. W. H. Gregory, Presi-

TruSt Company, was born in
Exeter, Son of the principal
of the Exeter High School, Mr.
Thomas Gregory, he attended
public school there, and then
returned to practise law after
receiving his degree at Osgoode
Hall.

At Huronview
Beautiful summer weather
greeted the guests who attend-
ed the fourth , annual bazaar
and tea last Wednesday after-
noon at .Huronview.
This event is sponsored an-
nually by the Huron County
Ladies Auxiliary to guronview
and was a decided success,
Long tables were set up in
the main auditorium loaded
with handcraft-the work of
the residents under the super-
vision of instructress, Miss
Mary Mellis.
These articles found ready
sale among the guests.
The proceeds of the sale of
craft work was over $200.00,
of which amount, the one who
made the article receives a
generous percentage, and the
balance is used to purchase
more material to continue the
work.
Mrs, Louis Forest, president
of the Auxiliary, greeted the
guests assisted by Mrs. Fro,
Thompson and Mrs. Harvey
Johnston.
Mrs. Lorne Scrimgeour was
in charge of the register, wh-
ich 145 signed.
Tea was served in the craft-
room from a table covered
with a beautifully hand croch-
eted lace cloth, the work of a
former matron of the home,
Mrs. Mary Jacobs.
Pouring tea were, Mrs. Walt-
er Forbes, Clinton; Mrs Clif-
ford Dunbar, Ethel; Mrs. J. C.
Ross, Goderich; Mrs. Charles
MacNaugh ton, Exeter,

United Church on Saturday,
June 1, when Betty Sturdy and
Stewart Henry Knipe exchang-
ed wedding vows.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Sturdy,
Goderieh, while the groom's
Parents are Mr. and Mrs. John
Knipe, RR 2, Gadshill.
Given in marriage by her
father. the bride Wore a floor-
length gown of Brussels lace
and nylon organza. It was
bodice fashioned with a squa're
neckline trimmed with sequns
and seed pearls, cap sleeves.
The full skirt had an over-
skirt trimmed with Brussels
lace. A mother of pearl head-
piece held her silk illusion
shoulder length veil and she
carried a bouquet of red roses,
Miss Grace Siemon, Strat-
ford, was matron of honor and
the bridesmaids were Miss Shir-
ley Kerr, Stratford, and Mrs,
Donna Conrad, Don Mills.
They wore street .length
dresses of cotillion blue Brus-
sels lace and peau de faille
with scoop neckline, cap sleev-
es, band and bow at waistline.
Their headpiece was flower
clusters of peau de faille with a
veil.
The flower girl was Nancy
Colson, Clinton, and Michael
Knipe, Gadshill was grooms-
man. The guests were ushered
by Ross Sturdy, Goderich, and
Ralph Gloor, Monkton.
Mrs. Pamela Saddler; Clin-
ton, was the soloist accompan-
ied on the organ by Mr. L.
Dotterer, Goderich.
Following a reception at the
Harbourlite Inn, the bride
Changed to a pink linen dress
with white and pink accessor-
ies for a wedding trip to Nor-
thern Ontario,
The couple will reside in
Stratford.

length gown of French satin
featuring lilypoint sleeves and
a bateau neckline dipping to a
V at the back. The front pan-
el of the skirt was appliqued
with French embroidery.
Her silk illusion fingertip
veil was held by a jewelled
crown and' she carried a white
Bible crested with red roses,
ivy and white streamers.
Mrs. Glen Sturgeon, Bayfield,
was matron of honor for her
sister. Miss Susie Mae Lostell
was bridesmaid.
They wore identical dresSes
of turquoise nylon chiffon over
taffeta.
Gerald Parsons, Thamesford,
was groomsman for his brother
and Wayne Pridham, Cromarty,
ushered guests.
For a wedding trip to West-
ern Canada the bride changed
to a coral two-piece suit with
white accessories, and a cor-
sage of white 'mums.
The couple will reside in Sea-
forth.
