also made for a bus trip to
Guelph on June 20 to meet the
president of the ACWW,
The roll call was answered
by an exchange of plants and
slips. Mrs, C. Elliott gave the
Motto, "In. the heart of A bulb
lies the promise of spring".
She illustrated, her talk by
cutting a dry wb in half and
then comparing it to one that
had brought forth a bloom.
She also cut an apple in
cross sections so as to show
the blossom.
Mrs, W. Heggarth introduc-
ed Mr. C. Epps, who gave a
very interesting talk on bulbs •
and flowers. He showed how
to prepare dahlia bulbs f o r
planting and also .how to care
for rose bushes and shrubs by
using the different sprays at
different times.
This was followed by a flow-
er contest and lunch was ser-
ved by the , executive.
It was announced , at the
meeting that future meetings
will commence at 2;00 p.m.
rather than the former time.
Tom J. Patton
A native of North Ireland,
and a resident of Huronview,
Thomas James Patton, passed
away in Victoria Hospital,
London, on Thursday, May 23,
after an illness of close to one
year.
After moving to Canada,
from Ireland, the deceased, in
his 73rd year, farmed at RR
3, Clinton, as well as in Stan-
ley Township.
He was a member of the
Presbyterian Church and the
funeral service was conducted
from the Ball and Mutch fun-
eral home by Rev. D, J. Lane,
on Saturday.
Mr, Patton is survived by one
brother, George, RR 3, Clinton,
and a number of nieces and
nephews in Ireland.
Pallbearers at the funeral
included Hugh McCabe, Ken-
neth Holmes, J. B. Holmes,
Edward Grigg, Harold Taylor
and George Hanley.
Jack Yeo and Tom Turner
were the flower bearers.
Interment was in Baird's
cemetery and relatives and

lington, spent the weekend at
her home in the village.

and family spent the weekend
in Michigan,
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hustid,
New Toronto, were weekend

McCullough,
Mrs. M. Stock has returned
to her 'home after spending a
few weeks with Mr. and Mrs.
Lloyd Stock.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Williams
were in Ottawa for the holiday
weekend, going by TCA from
Mallon. While in the capital,
they were guests of F/S Ivan
Jervis and family, before re-
turning home on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Cudmore
and family, Burlington and Mrs.
J. Cudmore and Miss Rita Cud-
more, Clinton, were Sunday
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Cudmore.
UCW May Meeting
The United Church Women
of Holmesville United Church
met in the Sunday school room
for their May meeting. Mrs.
William Norman was in the
chair.
Mrs. Irvine Tebbutt led in
prayer and Mrs. Wilfred Big-
gin -read the scripture lesson..
The Bible study on the Parable
of the Prodigal Son was taken
by Mrs. William Norman and
friends from Niagara Falls,
Goderich, Seaforth and Auburn
and the surrounding areas at-
tended.
Popular Cleric
Receives- Degree
At Kingston
Rev. Harold Snell, native of
Londesboro, received his Bach-
elor of Divinity degree at Sat-
urday's convocation at Queen's
University, Kingston.
-Mr, Snell is presently minis-
ter at Riverside United Church,
London, where he has been
since 1959.
He began his ministry in
Saskatchewan where he spent
one year and he served in Hur-
on Presbytery for 22 years, six
at Ethel, four at Auburn and
12 at Exeter.
He was chairman of Huron
Presbytery in 1943 and presi-
dent of London Conference in
1957,
Mr. Snell is a graduate of
Clinton Collegiate and receiv-
ed his BA degree from Vic-
toria College, University of
Toronto, receiving his Theolog-
ical Testamur from Queen's in
1936.

Funeral service for Mrs.
Verna M. Carter, Clinton,' who
passed away in Clinton. PO-
lie Hospital on Friday, was
held from the Beattie funeral
home, Sunday.
In her 78th year, she was
the widow of Nerman L, Car-
ter .and was born in Hullett
Township. ..She had .also resided
in Tuckersmith Township for
some 35 years,
Mrs, Carter, the former Ver-
na 'Hiles, was a member of the
Ontario Street United Church
WMS and also served with the
Huronie Rebekah Lodge No,
306.
She is survived by one son,
Aubrey, Toronto, and one dau-
ghter, Mrs. Leonard (Marion
Joyce) Evans, Kitchener.
Rev. G. L. Mills, Ontario
Street, conducted the service
and interment was in Clinton
cemetery.
Pallbearers were Arnold
Jamieson, Oliver McCharles,
Gladwyn Hooper, Jack Tamb-
lyn, Elwin Merrill and Keith
Webster.
Derwin Carter, Frank Tomb-
bin, Ross Merrill and Douglas
Campbell acted as flower-
bearers.
Clinton Area Girls Complete Project
Wearing the dusters they have been busily making for the past few weeks,
members of the Clinton Nip and Tucks are shown viewing the display they
had created and set up at the Achievement Day in Seaforth, Saturday. From
the left are: Wanda Fremlin, Mary Ann Hymers, Hazel Collins, Joan Lobb,
Dianne Switzer and Viola Collins, Hazel made the commentary on the display.

The vice-president, Mrs. Lloyd
Bond, conducted the business.
The minutes of the April meet-
ing were read by Mrs. Frank
McCullough and Mrs. Carman
Tebbutt gave the treasurer's re-
port.
Mrs. Stewart Farquhar re-
pented for the supply commit-
tee and Mrs. D. E. Gliddon
reported for the social commit-
tee.
The mission study on Japan
was taken by Mrs, D. E. Glid-
den. Mrs, Lloyd Bond read an
article on "Citizenship". The
meeting closed with a hymn
and prayer by Mrs. William
Norman.
An auction sale was held
with Mrs. Lloyd Bond as auc-
tioneer, A lovely lunch was
served by Mrs. Wilfred Biggin,
Mrs. Stewart Farquhar, Mrs.
Jim Lobb and Mrs. Irvine Teb-
butt.
