"If councillor Rumball indi-
cates he is for recreation by
giving a grant of $1,100," El-
liot pointed out, "what is his
opinion on attracting industry
when he has given no dollars
to the industrial committee?"
He commended Wench for
having spent money out of his
own pocket when contacting
some prospective firms.
Both Elliot and Wench stat-
ed they could see no reason
why a meeting of the finance
committee could not have been
held off until they had both re-
turned to town.
Issue Permits
Council issued four building
permits at the meeting, as fol-
lows :
Art Ball, $12,000 for a house
on Dunlop Street; Ed Fink,
$1,500 for an addition to his
present building; Larry Jones,
$400 for a garage and John
Kraszewski, $800 for a cellar.

man to keep up with him as he
realized the responsibility of
his job and knew he had to
work as quickly as possible,
because he never knew which
hydrant the firemen may have
to use.
IT IS interesting to note
there are .64 hydrants on the
route and the total distance
travelled by Torn was seven
miles each time. He had an
uncanny nack in finding the
hydrants under as much as six
or seven feet of snow and
laughs about the number of
times he has asked people
where their hydrant is and is
told, "it's just over there"
However, if he had to go by
these directions he probably
never would have found them
as people -didn't know where
they were at all . . He'll
admit to being fooled himself
on one or two occasions and
once he dug far a lengthy time
before finding the hydrant sev-
eral feet from where he
thought it was. However, the
reason was that it had been
knocked off and pushed down
the street by a bulldozer.
CERTAINLY, the silver mug
presented to him was a well-
deserved tribute for the faith-
ful and conscientious work of a
man who enjoys a good laugh
and has a philosophy that •we
can all do well to heed . .
Tom notes With some personal
pride that many of the people
who adviSed him to slow down
and take his job easier are now
passed on, but he's still going
strong, and certainly deserves
high praise for his service to
the community.
