McINTOSH Clerk 14tfb Representatives from CHSS returned from Goderich Satur- day with two trophies in the Huron-Perth badminton cham- pionships, bid had to settle for a second place finish in the school standing. Bryan Lavis was the stand- out of the local squad, captur- ing the boys championship with little difficulty. In all, he played four three- game sets, winning all four sets and losing only one game in one of the sets, He whipped the representa- tives from St, Marys and God- erich and then took the first game from the Seaforth player. Due to the fact players had to lose two sets before they were eliminated he had to play a second consecutive set with the Seaforth man, but handily won this as well . The other championship for CHSS was picked up by the girls double entry of Barbara Page and Nancy Olde. After nipping Wingham in the first set, they dropped the next one to Goderich, but came back with wins over Listowel and Wingham to face Goderich again as each duo had lost one set. The CHSS girls won the first match of the set, and after losing the second, came back to cop •the third to earn the championship. Beryl Stevens, competing in the girls singles, won her first game against the St. Marys representative, but lost the next two to Wingham and Exe- ter to bow out of •contention. Jordison, missionary who has recently returned from your YearS of Christian service in Trinidad, Rev. Jordison first outlined the geography of Trinidad, spoke of the chief industries, and agricultural products and then showed slides, Rev: Jordison mentioned the tremendouswork of the Wo- men's Missionary Society had Undertaken in - Trinidad during the past year, "Without their help, much of our work could not have been accomplished," said Rev. Jordison in praising the fine achievements of the WMS. The ardent missionary, with his wife and family, ex- pects to return to Trinidad aft- er furlough, and asked that prayers of Canadian Christian congregations be preferred_ to ensure the success of futaire work on the island. Mrs, Douglas Andrews, pre- sident of the UCW opened the annual spring thankoffering service with words of scripture. The well-known local group, "The Pilgrim Singers" sang several sacred numbers. The worship service, planned by the Fidelity Group, began with Miss Daisy Holland read- ing the lesson. Mrs. Lorne Jervis gave "Thoughts on the Lord's Prayer" and then led the cogregation in prayer.
