went to Cleveland on Satur-
day morning from Crumlin
Airport via TCA Viscount to
attend the Peterka-Clark wed-
ding, They returned on the late
plane.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Arkell, Jo-
Anne and Kenny left this morn-
ing (Thursday) for Beenburg,
Australia by jet plane, where
he will work as a chemical en-
gineer with Bechtel Construc-
tion.
Mre, Adam Boyd left on Fri-
day for Brent after having vis-
ited her sister, Mrs. J. E. How-
ard. They also went to Moore
town where they spent Wednes-
day with their brother-in-law
and sister, Rev, and Mrs. H. G.
E_Crosby.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Ferguson
and Bill, Mr. and Mrs. Don
Ferguson and two children,
were with relatives in Strath-
roy on Sunday. Della Lou re-
turned home with her parents
after visiting relatives for the
Easter vacation.
Mr. and Mrs, F, P, Arkell
and Miss Jacqueline Cluff re-
turned home Saturday night
after a motor trip to New York.
They visited the former's son,
Tom Arkell and family in New
Canaan, Conn,
E. R.- Weston returned to
Goderich on Tuesday of last
week after having visited Mr.
and Mrs. Malcom Toms for a
few days and Mrs. E. R, West-
on went home on Thursday,
after having been with her sis-
ter, Mrs. M. Toms for three
weeks.
Provincial Constable William
Johnston, wife and three child-
ren, Gerald, Kim and Jeffrey,
St. Catherines, visited his aunt,
Mrs. George Little over Sun-
day. Dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. George Little on Sunday
also were, Mr. and Mrs. Thom-
as Riley, Clinton and Mrs. F.
W. McEwen.
Mr, a n d Mrs. J. Pounder,
John, Cathy and Mary Beth,
Chatham, arrived on Saturday
night to visit Mr. and Mrs.
Lloyd Scotchmer before return-
ing home on Sunday. They had
enjoyed a 10-day motor trip
to Florida, staying where they
found spots of interest. They
started the return trip • from
Fort Lauderdale.
Corporal and Mrs. Lloyd
Westlake, Ricky, Catherine and
Paul, Kitchener, came on Fri-
day to spend the weekend with
Mrs. Westlake's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Malcom Toms. At a
quiet, family dinner on Friday
evening, they celebrated their
sixteenth wedding anniversary
and Mrs. Malcom Tom's birth-
day,

film on "Germany, Key to Eur-
ope". The film mainly_ dealt
with the post-war economic de-
velopment of West Germany
under the Marshall Plan. Pro-
gram convener, Mrs. R. Mac-
Donald, thanked Mr. Jervis on
behalf of the group.
Mrs. H. Currie, sick conven-
er, reported 13 home calls and
five hospital calls made during
the past month,
Mrs. G. Cantelon displayed a
quilt which she made for sale.
T w o child-size hand-knitted
sweaters were sold during the
evening,
Social convener, Mrs. D. Jef-
ferson asked for several volun-
teers to serve lunch 'at the May
1 general meeting.
Presiding leader, Mrs. K.
Johnston thanked the ladies
who had volunteered at the
bake booth at the St. Patrick's
bazaar.
As requested during the
March meeting, Mrs, F. ring-
land brought a report back
from the first annual meeting
of Huron Presbyterial UCW in
Goderich.
Roll call for May meeting is
children's used clothing. Lunch
was served by hostesses, Mrs.
H. Currie and Mrs. W. Martin. * *
Mary and Martha's
An Easter worship service
was presented by Mrs. Clifford
Park at the April meeting of
the Mary and Martha's, held in
Wesley-Willis United Church
last Tuesday evening.
Four assistants, Mrs. J. Ham-
ilton, Mrs. A. Keppler, Mrs.
Les Price and Mrs, A. Rodges
contributed poems, readings and
prayers, all on the Easter
theme.
The Easter classic "Were
You There" was sung by Mrs.
M. Nediger,
Mrs. Ken Taylor, Blyth, show-
ed a movie reel of Africa, the
subject of our study book for
this year. Mrs. Taylor's daugh-
ter, Claire, is in Africa with
the World Council of Churches.
She attended a work camp
with two other representatives
from Canada, two from the
United States and one from
Germany, to work out the prob-
lems concerning the integration
of the different colours and
races that ecist in Africa.
Following the pictures, many
of Claire's experiences and ad-
ventures were related, It is
most gratifying to know that a
person of such a high calibre
is representing our church and
contributing so much to the
cause of Christianity in Africa.
The president, Miss Billie
Stewart conducted the business"
meeting. The treasurer's re-
port showed a balance of $131
to date. The overall general
meeting of the UCW was an-
nounced for Wednesday, May 1
at 8 p.m. A roll call will be
held at next meeting. Also, for
the May meeting, each person
is to bring the youngest baby
picture of themselves that is
available.
The social committee report-
ed that they had catered a tur-
key dinner to the Women's In-
stitute last week. The business
meeting closed and games and
contests were enjoyed by the
21 ladies present. *a *
Fidelity Unit
In response to this unit's in-
vitation many interested friends
attended the open meeting on
the evening of April 10, which
took the place of the regular
meeting this month.
Mrs. Shepherd conducted the
service of worship, assisted by
Mrs. G. Rathwell. Special musi-
cal numbers were accordion and
piano numbers by Mrs. W. Hol-
land and Mrs. G. Henderson; a
vocal solo by Mrs. M. Necliger,
and a piano number by Mrs, J.
Lebbr.
Mrs, L. Jervis introduced the
special guest of the evening, her
sister, Mrs. Norman Wilson,
London, who gave a most de-
lightful account of her tour last
summer in Bible lands, and
showed her very beautiful slides
to illustrate her talk.
After the program, refresh-
ments were served and a social
period enjoyed.

The April meeting of the Wo-
He-Lo group was held in the
church parlor with 15 ladies
present,
Mrs. Reid read a poem on
"Palm Sunday" and the devo-
tional consisted of the Easter
story from Luke 24, read in

Of Ladies' Club
The Clintonian Club met at
the home of Mrs. Royce Frem-
lin with Mrs. J. Batkin as
hostess on Wednesday, April 10,
Mrs. Colclough opened the
meeting with housewife creed
and Lord's Prayer.
Roll call was answered with
17 memberS present.
Mrs. Colclough is in charge
of the bus to go to London in
May. The club sent Easter
cards to the sick members and
also sent a donation toward
the "Bunny Bundle".
Mrs, Butler offered her home
for the May meeting and pro-
gram is in the charge' of Mrs.
Moodie and Mrs. O'Connell.
Mrs Venner was named to the
visiting committee for May and
Mrs, Batkin won the mystery
prize.
The meeting was adjourned
and the rest of the afternoon
was spent in euchre. Winners:
high, Mrs. Welsh; lone hands,
Mrs. MacDonald; low, Mrs. Fal-
coner.
Mrs. Fairservice won a dutch
auction and a delicious lunch
was served by Mrs. Forest and
her committee,
unison. Prayer was given by
Mrs. Cox and meditation by
Mrs. McGill.
The roll call was answered by
a verse pertaining to Easter. In
May the roll call will be a
thought on new life in spring.
The minutes were read and ap-
proved and Mrs. Ball gave the
treasurer's report, and offering
was taken.
It was decided that cards
sent by Mrs. Cox be paid for
from our treasury. Visits by
members were reported as nine
home and four hospital calls.

ed. Most had been banded in.
It was announced that Mrs.
Bache was moving away and
Mrs. Ken Wood was appointed
as program convener; Miss E.
Jamieson to assist her.
A discussion regarding the
fall thankoffering took place. It
was left in the hands of the
executive and program conven-
er to plan this event.
Miss Luella Walkinshaw gave
a report on the morning session
of the Presbyterial at Goderich
on March 21. Miss E. Jamieson
reported for the afternoon ses-
sion. Mrs. (Rev.) Tonge of
Hong Kong was special speak-
er. These two reports were very
interesting.
"Breathe on Me Breath of
God" was sung and. refresh-
ments served by the hostesses.

Starlight Circle monthly meet-
ing was held on April 8 in the
church parlour. Presiding lead-
er Mrs. K. Johnston called on
Mrs. R. Hart for the opening
poem.
Mrs. F. Fingland read the
scripture reading and Mrs. M.
Roe offered prayer.
Kelvin Jervis, guest for the
evening program, presented a
J. Greig, Clinton.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hammond
and Mrs. E. Florian, Clinton,
were in Kitchener on Sunday.
Miss Mabel Scotchmer re-
turned to Toronto on Monday
after spending the Easter week
with Mrs. Robert Scotchmer,
Miss Cecil McLeod returned
home on Saturday after having
spent the winter with her aunt,
Mrs. Malcolm Fraser in Ft.
William.
Mrs. Norman Graham and
Mrs. Byron Johnson, Ashtabula,
Ohio, visited the latter's par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Or-
mond from Thursday to Sun-
day.
Plan Banquet
The April, meeting of the
Ladies Auxiliary to Scouts and
Cubs was held at the home of
Mrs. Bert Eckert on Tuesday.
Mrs. Merton Merner chaired
the meeting in the absence of
the president, Mrs. Arnold 'Wale-
ins.
Plans for the father and son
banquet were made.
The June meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. George
Bellchamber. •
Receives Certificate
Miss Shirley Pierson, accom-
panied by her parents, Mr, and
Mrs, Walter Pierson, sister
Linda, and Mrs. R. MacVean,
captain, First Bayfield Girl
Guides, and former captain,
Mrs. Grant Turner attended
the Gold Cord Certificate Pres-
entation, Convocation Hall, Un-
iversity of Toronto, on Thurs-
day.
They motored to Toronto in
the afternoon and Shirley en-
tertained her guests at dinner
before attending the ceremony.
Receiving her training in the
First Bayfield Company Girl
Guides under Mrs. Grant Tur
ner and Mrs, R. MacVean, Miss
Pierson was presented with the
Gold Cord in a colourful cere-
mony in Trinity Parish Hall,
Hayfield, on June 25, 1962, by
Mrsr N, Ormandy, Goder-
ich.
She now continues her Guid-
ing as a cadet of the First
Provincial Cadet Company.
