The progress report from the contractor showed that close to 70 men were now working on the building. The first portion slated to be completed is the new board room and this is expected to be finished this month. Machinery for the sheet met, al shop is expected to arrive later this month as well and the board will hire up tq four: Inca to help unload and hook • up the equipment, Philp reported that the con- duit for the IMK clock system being used in the new section. will also -.be installed in the old • portion, of the school, However; the present system will be maintained until it is determined if any money will be left in the contingency fund. If there is, the IBM system will possibly be used to replace the unsatisfactory clock system now in use. It was reported also that the Beaver Food Services of London had been contracted to operate the cafeteria and .appli- cations have already been sought for a manager. Philp explained that the manager would have to be ap- proved by a /member of the AVC. Principal's Report Principal John D. Cochrane reported to the board that pr- esent enrolment at the school was 753, a net loss of 33 stud- ents since the term opened. He said this was a drop-out of 4.2 percent and said it "was- n't too bad" in comparison to the average across the province. Some of the students h a d quit after the Easter examina- tions, all being students who had faired poorly. The principal reported the schedule for final examinations had been received from the de- partment of education and the dates had been advanced by approximately one week from last year, He also reported the school's cadet corps would hold its an- nual inspection at the Clinton Park on Friday, May 17 at 1.30 p.m. • In other business, the board: Learned they would be able to acquire their needed desks from Goderich Collegiate. Atwood, with burial taking Meeting Wednesday, t h e CHSS board held lengthy dis- cussion on. acquiring shop all, rons for the students in the occupational courses, but de- cided to investigate what other -schools do in this regard be- fore making their final decision. Del Philip, Phm.B., chairman Of the Advisory Vocational Committee,. reported his group had also diacussed the .situation hut wanted the CHSS board to make their recommenda- tions, He said the AVC had con- sidered getting the aprons made in the school's colours of blue and red, with the instructor's. coats being white. The names of the students would be sewn onto the aprons, Philp stated it would cost between $140 and $150 per week to have a rental system implemented and the garments cleaned every week,. Several members noted the students should purchase their own shop clothes and he made to have them cleaned to corn- mence each week, Philp explained that the st- udents in the occupational cour- ses would not be required to purchase as many books as those in the academic classes and the cost of the garments would not be too great for them. He estimated that the re- quired double set of uniforms would cost only $10. Board chairman, John Lavis, pointed out it would be advis- able for the board to make an initial "economic approach” to the situation as it would be board bought the uniforms, difficult to back up if the 1.0.00 10 10.00 .00 Business Administrator, Bob Maloney, was asked to contact 30.00 other schools with trade coins- 20.00 10.00 ses to see what program they 15.00 followed.
