Canadian ownership is con- cerned. This party then goes on to give definite, clear-cut reasons for taking this stand and again, according to Mr, White, since it does define is, sues clearly, it is almost doom- ed to defeat, It was also interesting to hear him state that the best president the United States ever had, Abraham Lincoln, clearly defined policy, Let us discuss this nuclear arms problem a little farther. What is meant by nuclear arms, nuclear deterrents, nuclear weapons, nuclear warheads, inter-continental ballistic mis- siles? I will attempt to give you my ideas with which you can agree or disagree, but at least I hope we will have reasons. Nuclear arms to me cover the whole range of atomic ex- plosives and when used in large size such as in Japan in the last war become nuclear de- terrents. Now that we have much larger and more destruc- tive bombs I conclude that the deterrent effect has increased in like proportion. Nuclear weapons, with which some .advocate our forces should be \ equipped, are extremely vague in my mind. Does it mean that the soldier will load his rifle with some nuclear bullet and kill his enemy with some nuclear de- vice rather than with a hunk of lead? I suppose the new method would be much more effective but I have found that soft nos- ed bullets are much more ef- fective in killing ground hogs; yet a wave of horror swept us "YOUR ARS BES FRIEND" SPECIALIZING IN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS GENERAL— REPAIRS, NO NI 00 -at OID„Nott SAYS OLo tHum .e- S0/41ficeltOWS COTA#110 OFCONCRETE.4UMXEDO, AND PERHANENZYSET... ...A CARS FOR SALE 1955 OLDSMOBILE Price eggil Blue & white, excellent condition viruiriro 1956 VOLKSWAGEN Price $500 1954 BUICK Price $100 BEST OFFER WILL BUY ANY ONE OF THESE THREE CARS Phone HU 2-9206 Good condition Mechanically good ,,,,,,,,,, „.. our auto ranee I would like more information about Allstate Insurance. It would seem that most of the political parties are taking his advice in the present cam- paign. • For example, the nuclear ,arms question. One party says We must have them, another says maybe, a third says we should in one part of Canada and says we should not have them in the other part but it is really too important an issue for the people to decide. The fourth party, says we should not have nuclear arms • APRIL 1st . . is the day that the $3.00 premium for Grade "A" hogs will be reinstated. Members of the cast were: Murray H oover, Mrs. Muriel Coults, Donald Martin, Ken- neth Johnston, Mrs. Bessie Johnston and Grace Mathers, Only other competitor in the event was the Seaforth entry. The South Huron entry had to be cancelled due to the fact one of the major players contacted measles on the day she was to perform, William Campbell, Seaforth, was named best actor for his lead in the Seaforth produc- tion, while Nancy Lannon, also of Seaforth, was named best actress. when it was alleged that soft nosed bullets were used in the First World War. Perhaps this new method would cremate the victim and thus avoid the problem of bur- ial. It is a point. Would the artillery load their cannon with a nuclear device that would destroy Brussels then use a bomb to destroy the town of Clinton? We would retaliate with a bomb that would destroy a town the size of Goderich. When would we reach the deterrent size? Do we have little wars? Is it politically and economically expedient that we waste a certain portion of our wealth and manpower periodic- ally? If we are going to end up at the deterrent stage why not start there and save all the suffering and waste inbetween. Now for the war-heads which to me are the nuclear destruc- tive force that is attached to a carrier for Canada, the Bomarc. This can be expected to hit one, slow manned bomber in eight tries. But we have passed from the slow manned bomber to the inter-continental ballistic missile which can only be detected five minutes before it arrives. Against these there are no known defensive weapons that can destroy them. The only answer is a deter- rent nuclear force which is quite beyond Canada's finan- cial capacity. Finally we are told that both United States and Russia have more than enough nuclear ex- plosives to destroy the world. What's left for Canada to des- troy? I still think that the people should decide the important is- sues in government. With rea- son let us decide this nuclear arms question.
