One of the highlights of the annual Huron
County Seed Fair held in Wingham, Saturday, was
a demonstration of a "Cowculator" by Dave Pelle-
terio, UCO, Guelph. By feeding various data into
the machine, it will compute the precise feeding
rate which will provide the maximum profit on the
milk produced. Watching a demonstration are,
from the left: Boyd Taylor, RR 3, Walton; Steve
Stothers, Lucknovv, Huron's first agriculture repre-
sentative; Tom Lpiper, reeve of Hullett Township;
Alvin Bottles, Bayfield; Dave Pelleterio; Huron
Warden, Walter Forbes, and an unidentified area
farmer. (News-Record Photo)

Travelling Teacher Presents Talk
To Pupils At Bayfield Public School
Pupils and teachers at Bay-
field public school enjoyed a
trip with Miss Shirley Brandon,
B.A., recently.
It was held in the senior room
and Miss Brandon presented
it in such an easy manner that
even the interest of the smallest
child was held to the end.
Mrs, Grant Turner projected
the coloured slides while the
speaker explained tehm,
Miss Shirley Brandon left
Los Angeles, Calif.
'
August 10,
1962, aboard the S.S. Arcadia".
The first stop was at Hawaii
where the passengers were wel-
comed with flower leis and
song. Views shower native flout-
ers and coral beaches.
In Tokyo and Kobe, Japan,
the modern stores and Buddha
temples were in great contrast,
The Giant Bronze Buddha at
Kamakura is 44 feet tall, 30
feet wide at base and 710 years
old. It is sitting out alone.
Hong Kong: thousands of
sampans on which the people live
were packed into snug har-
bours, protected from high
winds and waves. The floating
population is 136,000 on 25,000
tiny boats. There is an average
of five or six persons to a boat
with chickens, ducks and some
pets. There is a large barge for
the school and also one for the
clinic.
Manilla; Rice paddies; illust-
rations of how rice is grown;
and water buffalo.
Australia: They docked at
Sidney, Melbourne, Adelaide
and Perth. Views included coral
reefs; spring flowers and at the
same time orange trees in fruit;
Aborigines; fir trees; kangar-
oos; Koala bears, duck-billed
platypus birds, including the
amusing kookaburra.
Ceylon: Tea plantations in all
stages from the lush little green
bushes to the processing.
Bombay: Here the speaker
stressed the old and the new.
She was appalled at the poverty
in some sections 'where people
lived in little !houses resembling
rabbit hutches; and then one
saw modern glistening build-
ings, especially the skyscrapers,
built by oil companies; and the
buildings on the land reclaim-
ed from the sea. It is known
'as the Queen's Necklace from
the lights there at night.
One view was of a govern-
ment laundry—row of concrete
tubs in which men stood and
beat the clothes with a board—
all outdoors; and a snake-
charmer.
The ship touched at Men
where they went ashore and
then sailed up the Red Sea.
Miss Brandon and her travel-
ling companion left the ship at
Suez and went overland through
the Arabian Desert and Ismalia,
They visited the pyramids and
sphynx.
In Cairo, they were intrigued
by the open markets and baz-
aars, They joined the S.S.
"Arcadia" again at Port Said
and crossed the Mediterranean
to the British fortress, Gibral-
tar, where the apes are num-
erous and friendly. They beg
for sweets and while the speak-
er was about to give one a
treat, another got on her
shoulder and got the candy
first. They are protected so
are fearless. There is a legend
that as long as there are mon-
keys on Gibraltar, the rock will
belong to the British.
Shirley left the ship here on
October 11 and went into Spain.

ada, Alhambra, a national mon-
