man T. Tebbutt reported, "but
it is considered an inducement.
when hiring teachers;"
He .explained that, under de-
partment of education regnle-
time, the board was limited
in paying out net more than
one-balf of the salary paid to
the teacher during his final
year of teaching.
The plan allows the board to
pay the. teacher for .accumulat-
ed sick days when he reaches
retirement, if he has been on
the Clinton teaching staff for at
least 10 years
Tebbutt reported the board
would not be called on to .pay
the gratuity very often, and
noted only one teacher would
be eligible in the next five years
or so.
"More than one could hit the
board fairly hard," chairman
John Lavis noted.
R, • D. Philip, Phm.B., com-
mended the committee for their
efforts presenting the salary
recommendations to the board.
"You gentlemen have done a
very good job this year," he
stated.
Tebbutt reported the staff
was expected to accept the new
contract, as several meetings
had already been held with
their committee.
Negotiations With Secretaries
Tebbutt reported negotiations
had not been finalized with the
office secretaries at the school,
as .they had not approved the
committee's proposals..
The chairman said the secre-
taries had requested pay in-
creases and his committee was
also having difficulty drawing
up a satisfactory vacation
schedule for the ladies.
He said the committee would
reopen negotiations in the near
future.
Tebbutt reported Miss Bar-
bara Yeo had been hired as
full-time clerk-stenographer for
the business administrator's of-
fice.
She won the job over 12
other applicants.
In other business, the board:
Granted permission to R. J.
Hunter, B.A., to attend the an-
nual convention of the Americ-
an Personnel and Guidance As-
sociation to be held in Boston
in April. Principal D. J. Coch-
ranee,' B.A., said the conven-
tion would be of benefit to
Hunter and the school and
recommended the board ap-
prove sending the guidance tea,
cher • at an estimated cost of
$235.
Learned from R. L. Maloney,
business administrator, that a
survey was being made on the
school's insurance coverage and
this report would be available
to the board in the future.
Approved renting one class
room to the Bell Telephone for
a weekly instructional period
for their employees. Charges
are to be $5 per night rental
and an additional $2 for the
caretakers.
Asked the business adminis-
trator to prepare a copy of the
complete grant structure as it
now stands following increases
made in the recent provincial
budget.
Granted permission for the
business administrator to pur-
chase needed office supplies and
approved an expenditure of $280
for the annual banquet for the
board and teachers held Tues-
day, and also for the purchase
of a gift for Harold Lawson,
who recently retired as secre-
tary-treasurer of the board.

elected chairman at the meet-
ing.
He Old the members he had
planned to step down from the'
position to "pass the honors
around",
However, Joe Murphy, who made the motion, pointed out'
Lawson should maintain the
position due to the fact there
is •still mach work to be done
on the addition and Lawson had
taken a very active part in the
building campaign.
In accepting the position
Lawson informed the members
it would definitely be his last
year as chairman. He has
served on the board for over
20 years.
In a further election, Joe
Murphy was appointed vice-
chairman, a position he held
last year as well.
Murphy was named to the
striking committee along with
Bob Campbell and Dr. Walter
Oakes and they will bring in
their suggestions for the vari-
ous committees at the March
meeting.
Due to the fact the members
had made complete reports at
the annual meeting, little busi-
ness was discussed.
