Hospital Needs At

Each Family Unit
(Continued from page one)
tel.& And we've had some
pecuniary hand-outs from the
county. But the county always
did drag ,its feet in the matter
of hospitals. The hospital here
has been built and maintained
mainly by Clinton people. Yet
there should be some more
equitable -division of the coet,
not only for our hospital, but
for 'othens in the county."
"Our hospital did once enjoy
a one mill levy raised by the
town!, which was then worth
$800 a year. But when lthe
sewerage plant was put in, the
hospital board went to the town
and advised council that they
could do without this mill rate
for the time 'being."
Then Judge Fingland recalled
the many people who through
the yearns left gifts of money to
the hospital, Charles Peacock,
Johnny and Mary Ann Diehl,
Mrs. G. 14, Saville, and others.
Among them he mentioned
Eldr'eld Areitibald, editor of the
Montreal Star, who came in
1952 to officially open the new
nurses residence, and who left
in hie will over $100,000 to the
hospital.
"All of these people had a
magnificent regard for what we-
Were trying to do," said the
judge, "land the same spirit ex-
ists to-day. It shows up in the
work of the .auxiliary, in the
effort the staff is making to-
Weed raising .fundh for this new
wing, .and to the gifts of organ-
ieationg ,and betty-ideas who
are furnishing 'the new rooms."

At the Jaycees banquet fol-
lowing the parade, results of
winners were announced. Geo-
rge !Wench, bandmaster, heaed
the Sarnia Lionettes awarded
the coveted trophy for being
best band on pomade. Then he
heard the chairman say some,
thing. like this;
"The judges after delibera-
tion, are unanimous in making
an honourable mention of the
Clinton band, who for a second
year in a row, has obtained the
next highest marks, to ,be in
seeend place."
Directors feel this is a great
accomplishmept. The town band
is not of the same category 'as
the Sarnia Lionettes, and to
come next to them in 'competi-
tion shows Clinton band mem-
bers have put forth a good' deal
of effort. All bands are judged
as a group in competition for
the trophy.
Band directors report the
music of the Clinton, band to
be the best in a long time, and.
students belonging to the Uni-
versity of Western Ontario
Band, complimented them on
the performance.
Already the Jaycees have ask-
ed the Clinton band to return
to the next year's parade. This
Saturday the band plays in Sea-
forth Santa Claus parade.
