Many of us have lived or worked in Clinton .long -enough to, know the town, 'We think it. is a. friendly place,. We all know where to get a .shoe half - soled, buy a set of buttons for a favour- ite blouse, where the Lions meet and who runs the Orange bodge, where the swimmin • pool is, and the nearest way t he lake and off course; we know o t e _ g , where our church is and who well meet there, how to get .some Mack -top in the driveway and who ,to call if the plumbing plugs, We know the place so well the very living here is a habit. We like it, or we'd move; So we must find it friendly. , But what about the person who are rives in Clinton either. as. a tourist, or from the farm or a near -by town for an hour, or the people who come for a few months owing to the direction of .an employer? What will help them 'know at once that Clinton is a friendliy place? Probably the first few people they meet will create the atmosphere which "new folk" will attach to 'Clinton for a long time to' come, Who would they meet first? . ' Quite probably it will be a mach- anxc or gas pump attendant in a gar e Tra be the bo who washes car age, , w .y Ma be t will b a waitress wmdo s y 1. .. e . There is r little doubt that these .will want to create a good impression, A very great responsibility rests with the many working people, in the task. of presenting a pleasant atmos- phere to the visitors, so they will want to come again.. Some sales people have endeared themselves and their towns to us for- ever, merely by saying, "You come back; again, now." That makes a traveller glow with a wonderful warmth for hours. We have a lovely town with shaded streets and pleasant small parks, in easy reach of larger centres and "big city" entertainment. Let us do more to help the world get to know us better, What.e Ott.rsSay Enemy Qf The People (The Printed Word) ONE USEFUL BY-PRODUCT of not democracy.
