Cornish' became the bride of
Douglas Wayne Maxwell on
Saturday, July 14 in a lovely
ceremony in the ,United Church
parsonage, ,Woodham, with Rev.
J. R. Wareham officiating. The
bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mays, Garfield' Cornish, RR
1, Woodhatie The groom is the
'on of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Max-
well, Hensall.
The bridle wore a white street
length two piece dress of rayon
chiffon over rayon satin, fash-
ioned' with low neckline and
gathered at the waist. The
jacket was styled with elbow
length sleeves. A tiara of net
and pearls hold her waist-
length veil, and she carried a
bridal bouquet of red' roses.
Miss Doris' Elaine, Cornish,
AR 1, Woodham, was maid of
honour for her sister who wore
a yellow nylon dress with yel-
low and white flowers appliqued
on the dress. She carried- a
bouquet of yellow and blue dais-
ice.

Mrs, Mabel Scott visited with
her aunt, Mrs. Thomas Lawson
recently. Mrs. Lawson is well
over 90 years and reasonably
well. She lives in Stratford and
was •at one time a Londesboro
resident.
Friends of Mrs. Mervin Eck-
mien Pine River (nee Susie
Sampson), will be pleased to
learn that she returned home
from Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don, last Sunday and is recov-
ering •nicely, Her condition last
winter, was so critical that little
hope was entertained for her
recovery.
Mrs. W. Haw, British Colum-
bia, is visiting with her sister,
Mrs. 'Clifford Adams and fam-
ily.

The July meeting of the Aim-,
well Unit of •the UCW was held'
on July 16, with the.' assistant
leader Mrs. Hugh• pre-
siding. Topic for worship ser-
vice was "Our Church in Our
Community." Roll call was
answered by 15 memebrs.
The treasurer's report showed
that $93.86 had been sent -to
the treasurer of the general
meeting. The committee in
charge of the bale reported two
boxes packed and the one to
be packed soon.
The Bible study was taken by
Mrs. Clare Vincent on the sixth
commandment, "Thou shalt not
kill." Mrs. Don Sprung gave a
chapter from the study book,

The Women's Institute Will
meet August 1 at 8 p.m. Guest
speaker will be Fred Sloman,
Clinton. The Auburn and Blyth
Institute members are invited.
Roll call will be answered by
naming a former reeve or coun-
cillor of Hellen Township.
There will also be a bake sale.
Mrs. Pipe will demonstrate
table centres and flower ar-
rangement.
Berean UCW
The Berean Unit of the Unit-
ed Church Women met last
Thursday with an attendance of
25. Mrs. Crawford opened the
meeting with a message of
courage. Prayer followed. Mrs.
Will Manning read Scripture.
Mrs. Howatt reported on the
get-well cards sent, Mrs. Pipe
gave an account of the work
done at the parsonage. Various
recommendations are to - be
brought before the general
meeting this Thursday evening
hi the church.
Mrs. Lorne Hunking gave a
poem entitled "The Gospel ac-
cording to you." An interesting
skit was given by Mrs. Dennis
Pepfound, Mrs. Lorne Hunking
and Mrs. Lloyd 'Penfound.

On Tuesday night in Exeter,
Vie Norman Liverepere-coached
midgets won 13-2 with Bob
Livermore striking out 13 bat-
tees 'in the six-inning game.
Back in Clinton last night
(Wednesday), the local midgete
ran up a larger score of e1-2.
Livermore again pitched, allow-
ing onl ytwe hits in the five-
inning game. Clinton scared
ten runs 'in each of the second
and third innings'.

At about three o'clock Sun-
day morning, AC1 Edward
liam Barlow, 17; a student at
No. 1 Radar and Communica-
tions School., RCAF Station
Clinton, was fatally injured
when the bicycle he was riding
was struck by a car driven by
Mns. Jean Elliott, Goderich.
Both were proceeding toward
Clinton.
The accident occurred on
Highway 8, 'about two mile's
east of Clinton. He died about
an hour later in RCAF Station'
Clinton hospital.
He was 'the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Edward Barlow, RR 2,
Uxbridge, and is survived by
two brothers end 'two sisters'.
Constable D. A. Bowering,
OPP, Seaforth, • investigated.
Dr. J. C, Goddard, coroner, is
expected to set date for inquest
early in September.

Another airman, AC1 Ronald.
Franklin, Kedwell, also a
trainee at No. 1 Radar and
Communications School, RCAF
Station Clinton, was killed in-
srbantly when a car he was driv-
ing went out of control about
one Mlle north west of Petrolia
and plunged into a 'ten foot
ditch.
Mr. Kedwell was thrown from
the car, police said', and some-
how became entangled in the
framework of the 'battered car
at its 'left front corner., The
car had struck a post, and rip-
ped off a ,section of railing on
the Bear Creek Bridge at the
Marthaville Sideroad, before
going down the bank and strik-
ing a natural gas line which
was Slightly damaged.
A passenger, Kenneth Russell
Clark, RR 3, Petrolia, received
cuts' and 'abrasions'.
AC1 Kedwell is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. I. F. Kedwell,
RR 3, Petrolia. Constable Jack
MacDonald, OPP, Petrone, in-
vestigated.

BAYFIELD • - The Rum-
mage Sale under the auspices
of Pioneer Park Association
took on quite a different at-
mosphere in the arena on Tues-
day evening, July 17.
Mrs. R. G. Hunter convened
the affair and even with the
extra space one realized the
great amount of planning and
foresight which had gone into
the effort together with the
transporting, sorting, pricing
and selling. It was all very
orderly in the arena, quite dif-
ferent from the tales of push-
ing and squeezing, and running
up and -downstairs in the lim-
ited confines of the Town Hall.
• In this successful sale, Mrs.
Hunter was assisted by the,
Lions Club in the use of the
arena. Prof. H. K. Kalbfleisch,
making dress racks, Bayfield

whiche was a plan of the arena.
A loud speaker gave direc-
tions and various specials were
announced interspersed with
bits of cheerful music.
R. C. Moore took flash ph-
otos of the crowd and how
quickly some of those counters
cleared!
The next-to-new section ear-
ned $17: It was a new venture
this year.
The Salvation Army collect-
ed what was left over from the
other departments and it wasn't
much.

Clinton's all star girls' soft-
ball team journeyed 'to Brussels
on July 19. Dusty conditiOns
made play difficult 'for the lo-
cals, but did not seen to hinder
the Brussels girls who walked
away with an 11-3 victory.
Baiib Semple pitched for Clin-
ton 'and IVIarg Semple was the
catcher. Cleo Langdon was the
power hitter for • Clinton with
a home run. ' .

Tuesday evening Clinton edged
out ,Londesbora 4-3. ,Pitching
for the winners was' Barb Sem-
ple with Judy Watkins catch-
ing. The Londesboro pitcher
was Len Dougherty assisted by
catcher Susan Whiteman. The
Merrill sisters were the power'
for Clinton with lelarg account-
ing for two runs end . Sandia
batting home a single.. Janet

The plays were closely followed
by umpire Don Freeman.
