Scooters Need Licences! So Do Operators A reminder is issued this week by Chief H. A. Thompson that parents of children operat- ing powered scooters on the /sidewalks or streets are re- sponsible for the actions of their children. Chief, Thompson points out that it is illegal for any motor- ized vehicle, whether powered by a 11/2 cycle lawn mower mo- tor, or any. other type of motor, to be operated on a highway (or lane, or road) unless a licence is purchaSed for this vehicle. And then it may only be operated by someone who is 16 years or. over, and who has a licence. Apparently there are some homemade scooters in town, and they are being operated by children. "This is not only illegal, but very dangerous," warns the -chief. • He points out that it is the parents who are responsible for allowing their children to oper- ate such vehidles.
