Sue Hilton Wins
Two Titles In
Golf Tourneys
Sue Hilton', of the London
Hunt Club, last week became
the first woman since 1951 to
win both the junior and ladies
titles in the same year. Sue is
18 years. old. She gained) some
of her early 'golfing experience
on the Bayfield-Clinton Golf
Course.
On 'the Mississauga Golf Club,
course, she carded a 79 on the
morning round' to her - nearest
opponent's 84. This was Mrs..
Mary Jane McCarter, who was
playing golf for 10 years' before
Miss' Hilton was born. The
l'adi'es were 'playing off for the
Ontario Ladies annual golf
championship.
Sue's strength on the course
lies in her drives as well as in
accuracy. Her power produces
250-260 .yard' drives from the
tee.
' Then Tuesday on the Highs
lend Club Course, London, Sue
shot a four-under-par 71 to set
a 'new course record. This' score
equals men's par for the course'.

A fund raising game, Old-
sters vs. Regulars will 'be play-
ed at Holmesville on Saturday,
July 21, at 7 p.m. Due• 'to the
type of ball that the Holmes-

lately, the oldsters feel that
they can show softball at its
best. This could be one of the
most disappointing losSes, for
the Holmesville regulars.

EVEN CANNED FOODS
SHOULD KEEP COOL
Altheugh canned' goods do
not seem 'to need special care,
'they are best kept at a tem-
perature of 40° F. As this is
usually impossible, home econo-
mists at Macdonald 'Institute,
Guelph, recommend that canned
goods be kept in as cool and
dry apiece as possible.

A meeting has been called
for Monday evening, July 23,
at eight o'clock to 'form a motor

ready 48 persons have intimat-
ed they want 'a club, which will
be known as a Hot Rod Club.

place at the former Kingswell
Welding Shop, corner of Huron
and Orange Streets.
If formed the club will affili-
ate with. the National Hot Rod
Association with headquarters
in Los Angeles. There is also
provincial and Canadian bran-
ches of the association..
The club is not necessarily
for 'teenagers, but parents and
municipal officials are invited
to the organizational meeting.
When' 'organized the club will
get professional advice and lec-
tures' from police and safety
groups.
FAST COOKING BEST
FOR GREEN VEGETABLES
"Haste makes' taste" where
vegetable cookery is concerned.
The foods department at Mac-
donald Institute, Guelph, re-
commend that green vegetables
be cooked quickly and; uncover-
ed to allow acids, which de-
stroy the green chlorophyll, to
escape. To hasten cooking, the
vegetables may be covered after
the first five minutes of cook-
ing. Thin green leaves, Such
as spinaCh, are an exception,
and are cooked, covered, with
only the water that 'clings to
the leaves after washing.
TIPS ON ON KEEPING
BROWN SUGAR MOIST
When the hot and dry weath-
er appears, you inay have
trouble keeping your brown
sugar moist.. Herne economists
at ivracdonald Institute, Guelph,
suggest 'keeping the sugar in
an 'airtight 'container such as a
Pliofilni bag. A Slice of apple
or orange- placed on wait paper
on top of hard sugar wilt re-
store freshness. Replace freep.
,ently to prevent mould forma-
tion.
